Finally! I have chosen a school for my child, she is turning six this October and was accepted as Grade 1. I made sure that there are less than 20 pupils in the classroom (the school assured me that there are only 15 students per class) and they must be in school for at least 5 hours. It just in the neighborhood and also has a good reputation. Some teachers may not be licensed yet but they undergo screenings so I am sure they are capable (I am sure most teachers in the early grades are known to be more patient than those in the intermediate). The tuition fee is quite high but at least it is more affordable than other schools I know. School opening is nearing hear in the Philippines and enrollment is on going, So what made you chose the school of you child? Any other considerations aside from those I mentioned? Thanks!

I had a hard time choosing a reputable school for my son when he was going on grade one..I went to most schools here inside the village, to check on their credentials and teacher to student ratios. I, too dont like a classroom full of students and only one teacher. During these stage in our kid's life, they need to be guided because going to grade one is a lot different from pre school days..It's kinda more serious now. There are plenty of schools here on my side so what I did was, I checked all the facilities, if they have emergency exits, if the place is easily flooded,If the canteen is offering good, healthy foods (no junkfoods), the attitude of the kids and teachers alike, if the playground is safe for my son and many more..To sum it all, a parent will know if a school will be good for their kids, instinct and gut feel works sometimes..

Thanks for responding. I also made sure that the teachers are open for communication and won't be offended if I criticize something. I know my child's capabilities and her own tantrums so I warn them from the very start. They must know how to deal with hyperactivity or else they'll have a hard time dealing with her :-)

A good school is important for a child and also very important for the parents. Not only does the school campus matter and the number of students but also the teacher who will be handling your child. I went to a meeting of teachers and parents and had one-on-one talk with his teacher who complained that my youngest son was always moving about. That was a big problem. The teacher wanted robots not children. She had an earful from me.

I am a teacher and I am making it known for some of my child's teacher because they tend to look down at me and my child sometimes. My child is so inquisitive to the point of annoyance. At first, they see my child as behave and nice but I do warn them at once that she is also a riot when she wants to.

hi chrysz! i don't have kids yet so i don't have any firsthand experience to share here. but here in our neighborhood, most parents choose the nearest school so they can easily monitor their children. and then, the second consideration is the tuition fee. they usually choose what they can afford. all the other things that should be consider come after that, like number of students in one section, quality of education, etc. if i were to become a mother and to choose school for my children, i would choose the school nearest to our house or nearest to my work.

i am not a father yet but i can share some good points in choosing good school of a child, i have many niece and nephew so i will based to their situation. the most important is the security, some schools are very open with regards to the security, the kids must be in their rooms and must be totally fence. they must not free to roam around until reached outside the gate because many uneducated driver that driving without the concern of any accident that may arise. be careful, always watch your child.
