Are you earning as much as you could be with myLot?

I have been a member of myLot for around a year now. I am not active daily and I don't do this to make money, although I do like watching the pennies add up! Who doesn't? So far I have 56 posts and my earnings are at $1.94. I think I posted 1 or 2 pictures and have about 3 active referrals. At the rate I am going I should be at the minimum $10 payout by the time I reach 300 posts or somewhere thereabouts. Judging by what I have read, this is pretty good as some of you have posted over 300 and are not near to payout yet. But it is also not the best as I have read of some who accomplished far better. I have also noticed that there does not seem to be a known guideline for how to maximize your earnings per post, although there have been some suggestions on how to boost them, such as posting relevant pictures with your topic. I have given this some thought and I can not see how myLot could afford the time or financial expense of reading through each individual post and rating it with a monetary value. Screening for spammers is easy, as the myLot community is quick to purge any offender. So how do they keep track of the most valuable posts??? How do they know which ones are worth $ and which ones are just average??? I think it has to be the ratings. When I read a post that is just perfectly thought out and executed, I get a sense of satisfaction from reading it, and the first thing I do is to rate it with a positive. If I read a post that says pretty much what the 10 posts before said, I continue to the next one, no rating. I only give a negative if someone is being abusive or inappropriate. Obviously, myLot would want to reward those posters who make the readers feel satisfaction, ignore those that are redundant and do not contribute value to the discussion, and penalize those that abuse the system. So it stands to reason that they use the ratings to give monetary rewards as well as take them away (in the case of negative ratings). Similarly, they would use the best response chosen for rewarding as well. I would guess that those who earn the minimum payout in short order are also those that achieve best responses in their discussions. So to summarize, If you want to earn quickly with myLot, go for quality, do your research, and stick to what you know. Before responding to a discussion, make sure that what you are contributing has not already been said. If everyone spent a little more time articulating the best thing to say, instead of just trying to say as much as possible, we'd all be a lot happier with our myLot experience. Excerpt from myLot FAQ's "Discussion activity earnings are calculated based on a proprietary model that rewards quality responses, relevant discussions and images." I would like to say finally, that if this topic was already opened, I apologize for the redundancy. I did look for one similar but did not have all day to review the available topics.

To be honest enough I have never calculated how much I deserve to earn at mylot for my activities. Besides mylot, I take part in ORKUT, MySpace, Facebook and similar other social networking websites. Nobody pays me for what I do. I am really happy that myLot does pay me some incentive - how much it does not matter for me. I enjoy taking part in this community, a place where when i start a discussion, I know someone will post some reply, suggestions, or may be little bit of criticism. This community is so much vibrant that I really like taking part here.

That is a great attitude to have!! It's not about how much you make, it's about quality discussion that enriches our lives! I agree that it is all good. I like the occasional healthy debate when opinions differ and the satisfaction that can be achieved when you can agree to disagree with someone. Thanks for your thoughts.

Wow! I was just trying to say the same thing in another post earlier today! How to earn money in myLot? Enjoy yourself! I have fun here and post quite a lot, but only because I feel I have something to contribute. I posted a discussion about reading previous responses before responding yourself because I have one post with about 35 responses and almost half of them ask the same questions which I have already answered. I've only been here about 2 weeks and already have $8.99. I think it's awesome... a great bonus for having a place to vent, learn, make friends, console someone, etc.

Great minds think alike!!! $8.99!!!!! That is incredible! Good for you!! I think people want to read all the responses, but they are just to anxious to give a response and there is a lot of nothing to read in some of these threads. I find I often get bored with the topic before I can read all the responses and leave my own...probably why I don't respond much.

Been here a long time too and only had one payout but then again I don't participate to the fullest I could. I just started back after a long break and will hit payout again. But I have to discipline myself to come here and participate.

I don't think I make as much as I could on Mylot. I mean, I've read this guy who said that he made $1 a day and was trying to get up to $2 a day and that's the most I've read of anyone making on this site. If my personal experiences are anything to go by, he must have been posting like a maniac and somehow keeping his brain so active that he managed to post a series of decent post. I don't think I've the energy to post like that and even if I could do it for the whole year, I would only earn about $600 plus for the year. So, I think I'd rather post here when its fun to do it. I will post here because it's fun to watch it the pennies to pile up. I think Mylot earnings could be used to buy myself something nice on ebay. But I don't think this is going to make me give up my day job to make my living from Mylot.

I am now 17 cents from $10.00 so I guess I'm doing pretty good, though I can't say I'm making as much as I could be. I don't log-in everyday, sometimes I would even be gone for a whole week. When I do log-in I rarely get to spend that much time here. Also, I have 5 referrals but not 1 of them are active.

That's great!! I find the referrals to be kind of hit or miss. Although I have about three active 2 of those have only posted 1 or 2 times in the 6+ months that they have been on here. While the other one has close to 50 in just a few months. I miss months at a time on here...then I just come back like it's nothing lol...good thing we don't treat our boyfriends that way lol.

Earnings are not paid per post, per se. Just read about the things you enjoy, write about the things you know, try your best not to say something that has already been said and above all have fun!! You haven't stumbled upon the secret to great riches here, just a place to be rewarded for a worthwhile contribution! Welcome to myLot!!!

I have been here just over a year and love this site. I am my fathers caregiver and am home all day so this kills time quickly. I run around in and out doing house chores, yard work, gardening, and my flower beds as well so I am not here constantly. I am very pleased with the earnings I make here. I average about $25 per month. But I recently got DSL so my average has shot up considerably. I always do quality discussions, rsponses, and also comments. I do add a LOT of photos as my friends know as well. Not taken from the internet but photos I take myself as they earm me a lot more in discussions etc. Thanks for this info as it will help any newbies reading it. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

$25 per month is fantastic!! It's good to know about the DSL also, as I have icky dial-up and am seriously thinking about the upgrade. I have been thinking about adding some of my own photos. Do you use the photos as supplement to your discussions or do you just post them on their own? And what kind of photos do you post? I do hope this info helps newbies, but more so, I hope it helps to cut down on the amount of posts that are "just there" hoping to get credit. It makes it hard, for those of us who put up the effort, to do the research and find out if you are saying something that was already said, when you have to sift through meaningless words. Thanks Grandpa Bob!!

Do I think I'm doing pretty good with my earnings- YES. Do I think I could be doing better with them- absolutely! I've been on mylot for about 1 year or so and have only reached payout once- because I lost interest for a coupld months in between. But once I got active again it was no time before I reached payout and received my check via mail for $17.25. Now I am currently at $7.94 and that is posting an average of ever other day- quality posts of course (I hate paraphrasers....check out my discussion on that!) While searching one day I ran across a fellow who was giving away the secrets he discovered to making money on mylot. I took heed to one suggetion in particular- and low and behold- I was making money a whole lot quicker! Unfortunely - I had to search forever to find a fellow mylotter that was willing to share what he knows of mylot earnings- and he didn't share them too willingly either- but I was greatful nonetheless. So I will leave you with the following: It's about quality- not quantity. What you post is way more important that how much you posted anyday!!

Nice work!! I fully agree that quality is key and I don't know the secrets you do, just makes sense. I would like to check out your discussion on paraphrasers. Could you link to it here? or send me a link? Thanks so much for sharing your tip!!

I have been here for a while as well, no payout yet though as I have only managed to just get past one dollar. Originally I was hoping that this might be the next big money earner, and after relising (quickly) that it wasn't and was already hooked to the discussions, although after a while these get a bit boring, so then I normally take a breather from it for a while and then after receiving the Mylot Digest a couple of times, I come back, and get hooked once again.

I think a lot of us ended up here thinking it was the "next big money-maker". I discovered that there is no easy way to make money unless you are willing to shmooze people, which I can not. There is still something to be said for an honest day's work. So, that is why I rely on my day jobs to pay the bills, and keep my internet enterprises for entertainment only. And since you mentioned the myLot digest, I gotta say, that is what brought me to myLot today after over 4 months of inactivity. I had been deleting the digest for a while now, but for some reason today I read it and got sucked into the discussions. I'm glad though, because I reeeeeally like it here!! And I made a new friend at myLot today, as well!! Thanks for sharing Jason!

I was wondering if you open a new account here @ myLot. Because if not, for a year time, you only have more than 50 posts, you must be participating here on and off. Since I started here 2 months back, theres no single day except fridays that I dont log in to mylot and leave my comments or replies. Just like you I also have doubts or questions on how myLot really determine the amount that correspond to a certain post. Those are still unanswered till now, but its okay, I am also enjoying my stay and i think I garnered a relatively high earnings for my 800+ posts which is $21.40 to date. Thanks also for the help of some of my referrals.

Yes, I guess you could say I am a binge myLotter. I think this topic is the most myLotting I have done since I have been a member. I leave for months at a time, then come back for a couple of days. At first my biggest concern was getting a reputation here, but then I just figured that would all come in time, so I relaxed and posted when I felt like it. Thanks for your comments longbangod!

Firstly,I should state that I am a Chinese.Yesterday I was searching the Internet so as to find a good site that can help me with my English as well as learning more about you Americans,so,you know,I came across mylot. The first time I log in I feel that it's the site I have found for a longtime.Because of the purpose I come here is to learn more about America, its culture, its language and what you Americans'lives,as what I refered above,I read every article earnestly to ensure I can learn something in it.So now here I claim your pardons if something wrong is done by me unintentionally.Thank you!

I think you are already very good at speaking English. I can understand perfectly, what you are saying. Thanks for your comments and welcome to myLot!

I don't think you need to be on here all day or everyday to get the most out of it. I work a full and a part time job, myLot is my recreation. Like I said I have under 60 posts for the year. But I feel as though I am getting maximum value from my myLot time and experience. My reward is the friends and the quality discussions on the topics of my choice. I could spend all day posting 2 sentences of agreement or disagreement on 50 posts, or I could spend 45 minutes a week or even a month, posting 50 sentences describing my agreement or disagreement with just 1 or 2 topics and achieve similar results either way. Don't spend oodles of time on here posting your fingers to the bone. Instead, pick a day where you have an hour or two to spare, (I'm lucky to get on here once in four months), and look for the topic that motivates you to speech. Then pour your heart out about it! Thanks for your comments, lingli

Even though I write long posts with a lot of content, I actually do more reading here than writing. Sometimes, I read someone's topic and I open the window to respond. I write 3 or 4 sentences and then I just feel I don't have much to say. So I cancel the post. I continue to read different topics until... ...I have something important to say. ...I read something that moves me to words. ...I read something that I have to write back to or I won't stop thinking about it. Then I write, write, write! But that is not all. While I write, I read my post over and over. I read the topic over and over. I reread and rewrite half a dozen times or more. Maybe what I am trying to say is that it isn't just what you write but what you read that counts also, because the reading is what helps your writing to be more complete. Thank you for your post!

I gave up on worrying about whether my discussions are the same as others. There are too many that are similar. lol. I know i could answer discussions all day long if I didnt get burned out on it. So actually I probably do as muchas I could per day which is about 35. Thanks for the discussion and have a great day.

I think it's way more fun when you don't worry about the money. I agree that it is very difficult to monitor topic duplication. I feel sympathetic to those who have had their topic trampled, but I just don't see how it could be avoided entirely. In a perfect world, nobody would step on anyone's toes. The more people you crowd into a group though, the more likely toes will get mashed. Laws of physics lol. Thanks for sharing mssnow!

I think Mylot is like anything else in life...you get out of it what you put into it. There are mnay people who come here and complain because of the pennies. Are you really here for the pennies? Or are you here because is it a great way to meet other people...the pay thing is only icing on the cake! In fact, the money isn't really that much of a deal either if your don't have a plan for it! I have several webcash sites and have a plan for the cash for each one! It is a motivational thing! I have no idea how they rank things either. There is simply no way a group of people could read all these posts in one day. With new members coming on and mulitiple posts a day! I enjoy mylot and try to get on every morning. Every little bit helps and every new person met is a something new I learn!

I don't actually keep track of my posts. I am sure some people do. I think that for the most part I give and receive quality responses. I am an active member her for almost 8 months now. And I have made payout each month. However that isn't my goal. Just a bonus. I do have more than a few best responses. I tend to agree with you. Quality is rewarded here. To answer the question I am earning what I want here. The fact that wwe earn at all is a gift.
