a tv commercial is promoting 10,000 steps a day for good health. I like walking than commuting, but i don't think i will ever reach 10,000 steps a day. i think a can do 500-1,000 a day. How about you? What's your opinion on this? Is it really possible? Have you tried this?

I walk more then 10,000 steps a day, every day. So I know its possible. If you go for 20 minute walk..depending on your step size and speed you'll probably hit around 2,500 steps. Just walking through out your house (if you get up a lot) you probably do a couple thousand and if you add walks into that then you should easily be able to hit 10,000.

i don't think i can make 10,000 steps a day. although i walk from our house to the trike's terminal and then another walk to the bus terminal, our office is just along the highway so the bus can stop in front of the building that i don't have to work really far. if maybe i was still in makati, i can make 10,000 steps a day. because i usually walk around ayala to makati ave and then back. it's really possible when i was still in college when i use different route in going back and forth to school, which often exhibits heavy traffic around the area, that's why there are times when i have to walk about 5 km. when i had my immersion i also had to walk through more than 5km everyday

I wish that I could say that I do that much physically during the day. Being a mom is a pretty active full time job, but not active enough to take off the weight. For weight loss, I do stationary cycling, but walking would not hurt either. Thanks for the suggestion!

I havenot count my steps while walking but each day I walk two or three kilometers. Today I will count how much steps I do after reading your discussion. Now calculating one step of mine is equal to 1 feet, then 10000 step equals to 10000ft. Now 10000*12 is equal to 120000inches divided by 39.3 which means 3 kilometer. Yes I walk three kilometers every day.

I do about 40000 steps a day, so I think it's definitely possible. :) I think the only reason I achieve it is because I'm clumsy and forgetful. When I'm doing laundry, I walk to the dresser with each individual pair of socks, pair of underwear. I walk to get an individual hanger and walk to put away whatever I hung on it up. I also forget things so I'm constantly walking back to a room to find I forgot what I needed, then back into the other room, then back when I remember what I forgot, and on and on and on. I also do daily walkabouts in my yard. That means going around and checking each individual tomato plant, each plant in a pot, each plant in the ground, and inside each flower bed. People with longer legs probably have more trouble achieving the higher step counts, but it's pretty easy since I'm at 5'3". :)
