Do you often stay late in the night?

Many youth like to stay very late in the night. So do I because when in university I had kept this habit of sleeping late in the night. Since I became to have a job I can't change the rooted habit. I often burn the midnight oil for reading books, some uncompleted emails and so on. Sometimes even though I try to go to sleep, I can't fall asleep. Maybe the habit act against my will. As an old saying goes, early to bed and early to rise makes you healthy. And it is said that lack of sleep will influence the health condition a lot. I hope I can change this habit of sleeping late. What about you? Do you burn the midnight oil? Sometimes or very often? Expect your experience! Thanks!

I started to stay up late at a young age. I often snuck out of the room after my mom had fallen asleep. When my dad was around, he let me stay up as long as I played quietly. When he went to work abroad, I could do anything I wanted. I loved wandering around our house at night. As I got older and stayed in my own room, I continued staying up late to read books. This continued on as I got older. It became a combination of wanting to stay up late and not being able to go to sleep. Even when I was working I never had any trouble staying awake for graveyard shifts. But it got really bad that sometimes I'd be awake for several days. I got worried when I read that a person can die if he or she does this continuously. I decided to try yoga for health benefits and also learned how to relax at will. At times it's quite difficult but now I can sleep at night without trouble. I can still stay up late if I want to, but most nights I can relax and sleep for at least 3 hours. Try getting an activity that will really make you sleepy at night. Learn to meditate or also take up yoga. Good luck!

You might try moving up your bedtime just a little each night - maybe 30 minutes or so - until you're going to bed at the hour you prefer. It also helps to have a "quiet time" before going to be - take a hot bath, avoid TV and computer. I use a sound machine that creates "white noise" to filter out the other noises and that helps me to get to sleep - you can also just use a small fan.

I also have to watch how much sugar or caffeine I eat later in the day, or it will keep me awake.

Yes, I agree with you! It depends on people's job and life style. It seems most people are rational to keep good habits. Have a nice day and thank you for all the above!

sometimes i will. since the final exam approach, everyone has to stay up at night.it's a normal phenomenon. the rumor says that lack of sleep will do harm to our health condition.of course,it does.but since Napoleon Bonaparte slept only a few hours,i just decide to learn from him.sleep less, and do more.

Hi heartsoul! I also have this habit of staying up late. Sometimes I feel so sleepy already but when I lie down, I can't sleep. I feel my eyebags are getting darker with each passing night. Grrrr. I remember how my dad used to wake me up every morning especially on weekends and I have no choice but to get up cos he didn't know I went home early morning already. LOL. Miss my dad. Anyway, what I do is stay online, watch DVDs, or read a book until my eyes are really heavy already. Haha! Cheers!

I go to bed between 11 pm and 1 am. I get up around 7:45 or earlier in the morning so, I need to go to bed at a decent hour to ensure that I get 8 hours of sleep. I can get to bed earlier if I lie down on the couch while watching TV, I will start to nod off to sleep. But, there are times each month for me that I can't sleep well at all and I will toss and turn all night long until about 4 or 5, even 6 am. So, here is my suggestion. Fight the urge to stay up. I know that it will prove hard for you to fall asleep at first. Possibly for a few nights to a week or more. But, you have to retrain your body to go to bed earlier. If you do that, you won't have the problem anymore. And, make sure that, while you are training your body to go to sleep earlier at night you also couple it with training your body to get up earlier in the morning because, if you go to bed early at night but get up late in the morning, the nature of your body will have you continuing to fight sleep at night. So, given some time, you can retrain your body. But, it will take time and you just have to commit yourself to the task at hand.

You are right, lack of sleep really affects our health. The best sleeping time according to health experts is from 10pm to 6 am. Before I used to sleep very late at night sometime up to 1 to 2 am just watching TV but now I change that habbit. I know it wont do good so I am now doing my best to at least sleep at 10 or before 11 pm.

I have worked some 12 hr. shifts in hospitals, those are really long hours, when I came back to visit in my old environment I would stay up really really late, sleep just did n't come to my eyes. Now am back to my old habit, I go to bed 9p.m or later. My daughter thinks staying up late makes you age. So I go to bed at what I call appropiate hours. Sleep deprivation is not healthy for our bodies. Try doing things in the day time that tires you out, and you will sleep at night.

I have always been a night person. My mother told me that when I was very young, like one or two, she would come downstairs late at night to find me sitting on the couch with my father 'watching' television. My father would be asleep and I would be playing with something or other. I've never been able to change that habit, either. Luckily, I spent most of my working life being self-employed so I could set my own hours. One job I had where I had to go in to the office had excellent hours for me, 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. I do get enough sleep, it's just that my hours are a little different than most peoples.

Thanks for your experience, mentalward. Your job provides you a flexible time to arrange your sleep.I think it will take time and effort to overcome and change this habit if we have the determination. Wish you happy and healthy! have a nice day:)

I get about 3-6 hours of sleep a night, Ive had this habit since my highschool years. Actually I feel even more refreshed with 2 hours of sleep, however it does take its toll on you after some time. trying to sleep early only causes me to wake up afer an hour or so and then its an alnighter after that. At least I get most of my work done in the midnight hours, so its productive. With or hecktic schedules these days, the only time to get alone time is past 10pm, so i guess its only natural that we find ourselves up late at night doing the oddest of tasks.

I guess in your situation it is very normal to stay late at night during sleeping time because of your daily routine so for me it is not wrong to do it although you will sleep late and in my part when I was also working in the Hotel I also do the same thing in the same late time.....

I'm a born night owl so getting up early for school was murder for me. Now that my daughter is in school, I'm back to having to get up early again to get her up and ready to meet the bus. But, I didn't have to get up early today so guess what? I pulled an allnighter trying to catch up here in mylot and my other emails. Wouldn't surprise me at all if I made several bucks here in the last 12 hrs. lol

I always stay up late.. sometimes ill 3 to 4 am.. almost everyday.. its exhausting but, can't do anything about it.. a lot of things need to be accomplished, and daytime won't suffice to accomplish them all.
