recently i had a chat with a new friend from UK. He told me that he happened to visit one of our cities in our country and that he saw lots of street children. According to him, "i don't like them (street kids)... they are so bad". i don;t know if he had a bad experience with our street kids, but i never pursued the discussion anymore. i know that the kids are just victims of poverty and i know that something must be done for them. but there are so many of them. what do you think?

sometimes street children are really product of poverty, but in most cases here in the philippines street children are those children kidnapped by a syndicate who forces the children to beg for their profits. so there are ordinances here not to give money to the children but rather the money can be donated in charitable institutions.

Yes, it's really disturbing to see so many street kids. What's even more saddening is the fact that it's not their fault at all. They are just a victim of their circumstances. Making a change in this area can't be done overnight. I would say that a collective effort from society at large is required. For example, any government body/agency or NGO that can sanction funds and invest manpower and efforts into this area can really really make a difference. Some type of trust can be made which would shelter these street kids and their families, along with providing some opportunities for gainful employment (possibly by using their labor towards the functioning of a small-scale industry, such as making candles, etc.) by which they could earn small amounts and then buy food and things with that money. Additionally, basic education can be provided to the kids so that they can be self-sufficient in the future. I think taking such initiatives would be the clincher in overcoming this issue of street kids.
