I like creamy clam chowder and also like corn chowder and like creamy tomato soup and minestrone too... What kind of soup do you like? Do you make it yourself or do you buy it? If you make your own soup, how do you make it?

I like bean soups or split pea soup because they are filling. If I'm in the mood for comfort food, then I tend to make potato based soups instead. I make the soup because it's much cheaper than buying it, has less sodium and tastes fresher and better than canned soup.

I cut potatoes in chunks and boil them with chunks of onion. When everything is soft, I drain most of the water and puree the potatoes and onions with a stick blender. After that, you can blend in milk (I use soy milk), butter buds or margarine and whatever seasonings you like. I usually add in some extra veggies. My meat eating friends like to add ham and cream cheese to theirs.

I like clear chicken mushroom soul with a sprinkle of spring onions. I do not like much of cream or thick kinda soups. My mom prepares very nice lentil soups also which I like with dash of fresh lemon juice, fresh green coriander leaves and ginger juliennes.

We do a lot of homemade soups. Coconut soup and tom yum are probably my favorites, though. We also take the bones from when we debone chickens and make chicken soup. Turkey necks go into turkey neck soup. We make bean soup, wild rice soup, sauerkraut and mushroom soup. My guy likes to mix cream of asparagus and cream of chicken soup together and add crab meat to it. He also loves to make his own pea and onion soups. Those all gross me out, but he loves them! I really like soups in the winter and autumn. They heat and add moisture to the air and the winter and they warm you from the inside out.

I am not using soup from cans at all. I do them all by myself. But in fact I have to confess that there are only a few soups I like. These are peas soup, lentils soup and chicken soup.

I've never been a fan of chowders but I love almost all veggie soups and stews. My favorite is lentil potato stew. I always make my own from scratch. It's great because you can just throw it all in one pot and let it go. It's healthy, easy, and inexpensive.
