This controversy happened when she was interviewed in a magazine Vogue and said that Manila is a ghastly and weird city. After staying several months in the Philippines for her movie, Brokedown Mountain. Following the interview in Premiere Magazine remarking that the city smelled cockroaches, with rats all over and that there is no sewage system and the people do not have anything-no arms, no legs, no eyes". Because of what she said the former President Estrada condemned her publicly and was declared Persona non grata.. Her films were banned to show in the said city. Danes, have apologize to what she had said, but, Filipinos don't find it sincere. I wonder if this banning is still working in Manila. Stardust was shown in theater in the Philippines but, i'm not sure if it was shown in the City of Manila. :)

With that, I can understand why she gets banned. Filipinos are well known for being hospitable to foreigners, her being a celebrity, I would assume she got even better treatment. While what she said could be true or atleast true to his opinion, Can't blame the president for banning her. Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion, but way of saying or expressing is another thing. We have this thing called professionalism.

yes, her films were banned but after she apologized, as if nothing happened.. I used to like her, but after misjudging Philippines, I dont like her anymore. I wish she was banned forever. And i hope that the incident reached Oprah Winfrey so she had something against Claire Danes! haha, Oprah is totally against discrimination.
