Free list of foreclosed homes

Scam or for real? I have checked too many to count online just to find out at the end of the page, yes you can get this so-called free list for x amount of $. Has anyone ever found one for free to look up online or from a realtor? This is not just for a discussion, I really need to know as we are trying really hard to find a home. I was told once by a ex-realtor these lists are supposed to be free to the public. We are on limited funds and we need a home. Let me know what you are doing if you are in the same boat as us?
