Do you think children who take music lessons are better students?

They say that children who take music lessons are better at math and reading, for my family, this has held true. What are your observations?

According to a study at McMaster University, Canada children with music lessons had better memories as well as higher literacy and math levels.

I am not sure that they are better students, but i do know they will perform better in mathematics. The way i see it if the human brain can process mathimatical changes in notes on musical instruments without so much as breaking a sweat than it will procell all other mathematics at a much easier rate. Thus one things ties to another. =O) i read about it in a science and technology magazine years ago.

I'm not sure that they are better students because of music lessons. I'm thinking that the better students make the effort to learn music. My son was in the high school band, and every one of his band friends was a dedicated, high achieving student.
