Crabs in a bucket

Why are some people like crabs in a bucket? They hate to see one person doing good and instead of helping them they just keep pulling them down.

Very interesting analogy! It's the "social climbers" and "corporate climbers" who do this. They need to be at the top, even at the expense of others. These people are empty inside. They need the recognition, power, glory, whatever, that comes from being on top. They are very insecure people who most likely have no friends at all. In one respect, I feel very sorry for this kind of person. But, on the other hand, I stay as far away from them as I can. I'm very happy where I am in life. I do not need to be at the top. It doesn't matter to me if I'm at the bottom. I am happy with myself, and I believe that is really what matters in life. I had a friend like that once, and I emphasize "once". I let her go her way and didn't try to keep in touch. Apparently, we were too different to remain friends and I was not really sad to lose such a "friend".
