A cup hid in a shoe box for years until its owner decided to see what his old toy was worth. Owner says his grandfather gave him the 5.5-inch high mug to play with when he was a child, back in 1945. told it was actually a rare piece of ancient Persian treasure, beaten out of a single sheet of gold hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus Christ. It is worth $988,000. Got any antique toys laying around?

I actually read about it because I saw the picture and the story looked interesting. I read about it this early afternoong and I was surprised. You always hear stories about people finding things that are worth a lot of money and stuff and I remember hearing about this guy who found a penny or something that was worth a lot. I would always dream that I would find a valuable penny since I'm always collecting penny but I don't think that will happen. I don't really have any antique toys laying around.

My husband bought a used lamp from a used furniture store and when my uncle came in for a visit he was very interested in our lamp and offered us a $100 for it he says it is a antique and is very old. We didn't take the money one because we were using it and two if he offered a $100 bucks for it we figured it was worth way more then that since we paid only $5 for it. I guess we sometimes never realize what we have or what it is worth until someone comes along and tells us. We still have the lamp it is no longer used and it is put up. We never did take it to get valued because their is really no where to take it close by. Wow! I wonder if the man decided to sell the cup? I probably would for sure for that much, but then again it is amazing to have a little piece of history that is B.C. Bet he wished all these years he had checked sooner huh? To be sitting on a gold mine so to speak and never knowing it.

Wow, that is amazing! Wouldn't that be great to find out that you have in your possesion something worth that much money..geesh. I had never heard of this story until reading your post. I bet that owner was very, very thrilled...beyond thrilled. I doubt that I would have anything old and worth any value laying around my house, if I did, it would probably be broken by the time I realized it was worth anything..lol I have three kids. Gosh, how I do wish I could find just that one item that would bring my family wealth...keep dreaming, I know. I love to shop at thrift stores and garage sales and I always look around...wondering what here could be worth a lot of money. I still haven't found my treasure yet, but I will continue to look. Thanks for sharing with us, have a great day!

I wish I had some antique toys laying around the house. I would be selling them in a heartbeat. Can you imagine having something so valuable in a shoe box stuck in a closet somewhere all this time.
