I think that's because of texting wherein we tend to cut short every word that we text. Problem is, sometimes it makes us doubtful of our spelling capabilities. My opinion, a child who is in his/her formative years, should not be given the liberty by the parents to text using short cut words because he is not yet so familiar with the correct spellings of many words. If an adult can make mistakes in spelling, how much more a child?

That's one reason why I dont let my eldest use my cell to text anymore..He's not old enough yet to have one so he uses mine to text his dad...I recently found out that whenever he writes a letter to me or his dad, it's always abbreviated or text-like..I put a stop to it right away because school is about to start and he might use the same way in writing his notes ..When I started here, I also had some trouble completing the whole word because I already grew accustomed to text mode..But then, I had to do it differently or else I would get some remarks...I don't type fast but not too slow either, so typing the whole word makes it a little difficult sometimes..

Ei gurl! there were two things why they mispelled words. The first thing is that they like it short thru text message or sms so that the characters are able to text other word that they want to say in the message. the second one is they forgot in a way that text message really influenced the spelling of people..

i don't have a child yet. but i think i would tell my child not to use the text mode too for it can give him problems in spelling. but i will just tell to him as a warning and not a command. some child still know they're spelling even if they use the text mode. you can always text with correct spelling of words. but of course, its much slow. i think children (and us) learned the value of spelling in our elementary and high school days. they just have to know what is it's value in their life.
