What do you think of the oral flu vaccine given to infants for immunization?

I just had my son last year and with my other two children the flu vaccine was never given to them. Now it seems like all pediatricians recommend this oral vaccination and really "push" it on you. In fact, they just include it in the normal vaccinations unless you really push not to have it done and sign a waiver. I never get my kids vaccinated, and the one year I did get one of my children vaccinated - she was more sick that year than she had ever been. I really don't like the idea of it because it seems like the flu strand changes every year anyway so how can we possibly be vaccinated against it when it consistently evolves? Please give your input on this.

i know what you mean, they gave my daughter the shot last year, i was realy pushing for them not to give it to my daugther, and she wasnt giving me the waiver to sign either they kept saying that i wouldnt be able to leave with out them giving her the vaccine, i let them and long and behold my daugther got sick, i was so upset and i know not everyone reacts to the vaccine the same way, but ive never gotten the shot and ive been just fine, i dont think that i will let them give it to her this year..

I never heard of an oral one just the nasal one and the injection. Interesting. As to the flu strains changing, that is true. Last year's vaccine wasn't even that effective either because they totally miscalculated which strains would hit: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/597553/flu_shot_only_covers_one_of_this_years.html

In my opinion I would not give my child a vaccine like this nor would I take it without doing very very very thorough research and even than I would be iffy about it...I suggest you do not opt for it until you are certain you have all the information you want about it and you are satisfied that it is safe and necessary.

I know what you mean. And it's a series of 3 vaccines. I ended up letting the doctor do the first one because it's almost like the "scare" you into not doing it. The tell you all these positives about it. I really regretted it though after I got home. Then the next time the advised me that since he got the first one he really shouldn't skip the others - again "pushing" for them. So in the end he got all three. He hasn't been sick in 6 months, but who knows why. I just saw I am Legend and it just reinforced my thoughts on the whole vaccine thing.
