The Media and how far they will go!!!!

Does it play with ones mind if we read or hear of something involving a person, a couple or child and then to find out it is untrue. This being so as to maybe sell that extra magazine or newspaper and all in the name of money grabbing Media. To print a story about someone and then have it not be true is this how far they will go! Is it time to just not take any of it in and just live our own lives, or are we so hooked or focused on others lives that we have to know? If ir is not about a celebrity splitting up only to see somewhere else that they are out shopping etc. together or dining together. Do we really need this type of life as of what others are doing, or can we just live our own and try and make it as happy as possible.

You know what caramello I am usually very sceptical of what I read in the press as I have experienced the way that they can twist things and make stories up that are not true in the past and today I was absolutely fuming that they had printed a story about a couple abandoning their babies cos they were girls and had obviously done nothing to verify the story as it is totally untrue! It is awful when these so called journalists cannot even back up the facts in their stories! xxx

That was a perfect example mummymo of what I am saying and it does make you wonder what is truth and what is lies! it also can take some time before realising after buying many magazines that half of it is most likely untrue. Better off saving the money! xx

pretty ironic that we are supposed to rely on these people for information and they are the ones we need protecting from - I don't think they realise how much harm they can do to a persons life when they are not checking their facts! xxx

I guess the best thing to do mummymo is to hear what the Media says and leave it without getting to involved but then we need some for discussions and that can be a little problem.

The media is like gossip; it will come out regardless if its true or not. The grape vine effect of information on people, places, and things. That is something that will go on for ever.

Yes it will most likely never go away as the need to sell stories and make money is the big issue. Better not to get to involved as to how important these peoples' lives are to us. There are some I like to read about but mainly those that may be ill and like to hear a good outcome. But other than that it is as far as it goes.

I don't watch TV and I don't watch news. They all focus too much on personal life and horrible stories. Media is going way too far, specially here in USA. I don't care about celebrity personal life. It is not for me to judge it, so I don't need to see this crop that media is creating.

I once heard that if they put good things in the news and papers would anybody buy them! Instead they feel they need to put mostly bad and even gruesome things in to sell the story as they say that is what people want! Does make one wonder!

A lot of people have a crush... sometimes even an obsession with a particular celebrity. And they want to know everything about it. They are the people buying those magazines. It is easy to become obsess with a celebrity these days as we are satured with things that we can afford to buy. If it is a singer... we have all his/her CDs. If it is an actor... we have his/her movies on DVD. And the internet is there to download hundred of their photos. Plus they pop up on television every five minutes. Today... people find this a form of escapism. It is far more exciting to read about the life of the rich and famous than to think about your own boring life and your job from 9 to 5.

The "crush" idea sounds like a good explanation as a reason why it goes over the top in some cases, but I don't agree on my part that I would rather read about the rich and famous because of my own "boring" life. I would prefer not to read about them as obviously for some being rich and famous can also be sad and lonely! But if something is printed and I chose to read about it I would like to think it was the truth, which it seems in some cases it is not.

I wonder myself when celebrity stalking became regular news. In days gone by, celebs were mentioned by the gossip columnists, not on regular news. I worked for a mid-sized newspaper as both editorial assistant and as community news editor. And I was quite surprised at how front page news is chosen. It has nothing to do with how important the story. It has everything to do with which reporter has not had a front page story for a while, which stories have the best pictures, and whether or not the story will make people buy papers.

That is an intersting fact you have mentioned kenzie as to the reason stories are chosen. They maybe have certain celebs. that are more popular and the bigger the celeb. the bigger the story or the more dirt that can be dug up. All meant for "good" reading and the public (or most) seem to want this.

The problem with the media is that they have "rights" as freedom of speach which only we as individuals should have. News are suposed to be Real news and until fines are in the law for make up news they will continue to publish what sells the most.

Bit unfair though as I think people have more rights (or most anyway) especially if you are in the public eye. The Princess Diana case said it all for me and what went on there and is still going on.

carsmello, "The Media" have so much to answer for in the portrayal of "every day" events. Not only as you point out, "False", but also exagerated and highly manipulated. I believe this sells as there are many people looking for situations worse than there own or more discriminating so they feel better for a while. Exploitation of people committing crimes or acting contrary to excepted social behaviour and "PAYING" these individuals, thus glorifying their inappropriate behaviours is another pet dislike I hold for the "Media"!

Yeah, i think it's ridiculous how far the media will go to sell papers mags. like the Enquirer and all the other super market tabloids seem like they will stop at nothing, and probably ninety percent of what they write is untrue.
