I think alot of Americans will agreet that having many illegal immigrants has stopped the raising of minimal wage, leaving the country stagnant. I just had a conversation with a gentleman on another one of my post him calling Americans lazy people. I don't think it is as much as lazy as we are more educated now. Why work for minimal if you think you are worth more. He said Cali and Arizona has no choice american wont work out in the sun picking fruits and veggies. Why arent they getting together with correctional facitilites and having prisoners go out into the field to do these jobs if they are that hard to fill? Pay them minimum wage and then that way they can pay for thier housing at the facility in which they are incarcerated. Would this kill two birds with one stone? What is your view on this?

After reading comment no. 1, I had to respond. Minimum wage is set in this country (U.S.) but inflation has climbed so high so fast that many Americans are having to decide whether to buy food or medications they need. It has not helped to stop inflation here, that's for sure. It is the illegal immigrants who are hurting our working citizens. I have known a few people, some with Master's degrees, who have had to work a minimum wage job in order to eat because they could not find a more suitable job. People keep graduating from college, yes. That means that more and more positions are being filled up in the higher income range. That leaves a lot of "more educated" people desperate for a job... any job. Get rid of the illegal immigrants as soon as they are discovered. Deport them. This would open up more job opportunities for the legal immigrants to do. The legal immigrants pay a fee for being in this country. The more years they want to stay here in order to make a living, the more they pay for the privilege. But, there are many Americans who are not as educated and only qualify for minimum wage. As the price of everything in this country is constantly going up except wages, more and more people are unable to attend college. It simply costs too much. If I were in that boat, I would take any job that paid enough to put food in my mouth. I would pick apples, oranges, peaches, whatever. Some Americans are lazy, yes. But you have that in any oountry. Most want to work, though. It's hard to find even a minimum wage job in this country due to the influx of illegal immigrants. Assuming that somewhere down the road the people who are here illegally will be deported, and the uneducated Americans can finally work, the economy will rise so more people can afford college. This would open up more minimum wage jobs, like picking fruit and the like, and having prisoners doing it is an excellent suggestion. Who knows? It might even make a prisoner or two feel like they are contributing something, thereby raising their self-esteem. This would make it less likely that they would end up back in prison. At least, these are my feelings on the subject. Take care.

Then I would have to say that Arizona needs to get of its butt and do welfare reform, Mass did it and now there is a 2 year limit that is it. You work where ever you can find a job. See how many of those jobs will be taken by the citizens then.

Every countries set minium wage. This is to control inflation. When you send prisoners in the field to work don't you think that you are sending the wrong message. Americans need to realize that to build your country that means to work. That is the difference with Cuba. Whether you are a doctor or a teacher, you have to be in the field to.
