Irritable Bowel Syndrome. What do you do for it?

I have it. It sort of goes hand-in-hand with fibromyalgia. Do you have it or know someone who does? What do you/they do about it, aside from the obvious, antacids, anti-diarhheals, anti-constipation medications? Are there any food/beverage that you consume that help to even out these symptoms? How about herbal remedies?

I am reading "the maker's Diet" by Jordan S. Rubin, NMD, PhD. He talks about how important the gut is and the need for the right kinds of bacteria in it. He talks about how so many diseases are caused by poor balance of the bacteria in the gut. It might be worth you reading it and learning what he has to say. I am finding it very interesting. I have read where charcoal tables from the healthfood shop is good for that sort of thing, I have never tried it but it is worth a try....

Could be worth a try, I agree. I had an intestinal infection when I was a kid, and was forced (literally!) to take charcoal tablets. I didn't think they'd help with IBS, though. It certainly is worth a try! Thanks for the info and the comment.

wow I didn't know they went hand in hand which I should have known since I have both. I know that we are supposed to eat 6 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones. We are supposed to stay away from raw veggies. Do I do it? No.. I really do need to get it under control. I will watch to see if anyone has found anything that will work for it.

Yep, they sure do. I have both myself. Raw veggies? Geesh! I love them! Have you ever tried yogurt? I'm curious to see if that would help, but can't seem to get myself on a daily regime of it.
