Why are men and women treated differently?

As most of us know it is only within the last 100 years that women have achieved anything near equality with men, with most of the changes coming within the last 50 years. While in many western countries women now occupy positions equal to men, there are still those who feel that men are in some way superior. There are a few monarchies still left in the world, perhaps most notably the British monarchy, yet to the best of my knowledge, they all insist that a boy, even if he is the youngest in the family, must inherit the throne. There are countries where families are proud to have only boys, and even in nations where women have achieved equality, most families hope for at least one boy. This fact was made plain to me recently when a gentleman, speaking of his first grandchild said, a girl is okay, but a boy is better. I was shocked because I knew that his own family consisted of two boys, and I thought that he would be delighted with a granddaughter. This man's grandchild was a boy, but I couldn't help but wonder how a little girl, hearing that remark would feel. There has been great excitement, in the past year over the fact that a women may have a chance of becoming President of the US. We can also be certain that there are quite a few among the electorate who wouldn't vote for a women president. The Roman Catholic, and a few other churches still refuse to accept women clergy. Why do you think that women have been kept down for so long? Why would anyone prefer one one gender over another, when it comes to their children? Have we in some way been brainwashed into thinking that the male of the species is superior? If so, by whom and why? Blessings.

I don't think that we are being transformed into thinking males are superior, rather just the opposite. We are coming from an era where women could only hold certain jobs, which were under paid into an era where women can run for president, and it wasn't that many years ago that they couldn't even vote. Just because there are areas which are still closed doesn't mean they will always be so, but I do believe that there are areas in which men will perform superior mainly because of body structure and the way they look at things. I also believe that there are areas in which women will always be superior due to body structure and their way of looking at things. But in the case of both, just because one or the other are superior at certain things doesnt make them superior as human beings. I always try and keep in mind that behind every man there is a woman and behind every woman there is a man.
