NO! It was not Redyellowblackdog.

In spite of the many rumors to the contrary that circled the globe almost instantly, thanks to the internet, it is not true that redyellowblackdog married the dog in his avatar. Redyellowblackdog did not marry his dog. Yes, it is true. Redyellowblackdog is still only friends with the animal in his avatar. Attached is a photo of the real bride and groom. Clearly, not redyellowblackdog. Here is the factual, documented story, with photo. http://www.thatsweird.net/news46.shtml So, if the circumstances are right, say it is for ritualistic religious purposes, should humans and animals be allowed to marry if it is a marriage in 'name only'?

Well, let's take a closer look at this situation. 1) This took place in rural India - different customs, traditions, and religion; plus, a PRIEST performed the ceremony. Whether it is allowed by their laws or not, their religion sanctioned it. Warren Jeffs "religion" sanctioned him "marrying" 12 and 14 year old girls. 2) Neither spouse has any intention of remaining faithful. When the dog comes into heat; she will "sleep around" and I doubt the man will pass up any other opportunities. BUT, many spouses of both sexes commit adultery and have affairs. So, that is not any different either. 3) Obviously, the groom will need to support his wife; but, once again, this is common in many marriages. 4) The groom and his family "feasted" while the dog was given a "bun". Many married men treat friends and family better than they do their spouse, but, usually they wait till after the honeymoon. 5) The "bride" did not say any vows and did not give her consent to the marriage. Once again, this is common in many cultures. Like this dog, they do not even meet their husband until the ceremony and they have no say about whether they get married or not. 6) I do not believe that they plan to have any offspring and even if they tried I don't think it would work. But, some married people do not want to have children and others are unable to have them. That does not prohibit them from marrying. 7) They do not speak the same language. Once again, this has not kept other couples from getting married. When people from different countries marry, many of them have serious language barriers; but, they manage to overcome them after the ceremony. Personally, I would not want to do this; nor, would I want my son to marry a four-legged spouse. However, when you take a look at the state of marriage around the world today - this marriage is not that different from other marriages that are taking place every day.

While the dog may be biologically and scientifically a "b!tch"; calling a nasty tempered woman a "b!tch" is an insult to all female canines - most of whom are very loving, devoted, and even-tempered.

Of course they should, along with farm animals, and trains plains, and cars... and any other object that strikes their fancy. Now that we know marriage don't mean anything special, we ought make it so anyone can marry anything no matter how stupid it is. After all, that is the direction that we are headed. I hope this man and bi!tch are very happy in their new life together. Now if she was only housebroke....

The trend is in the direction you suggest. It remains to be seen what will happen. I just had to post this thread as there use to be someone posting here who when disgusted with my opinion would suggest I go kiss my dog. He meant that as a supreme insult. I began to reply to that, "I certainly will, right away!" or "Okay" or something like that. Apparently this irritated the guy enough he quit even responding to my threads.

Yeah, I remember that guy... he was really funny when he'd go off on a rant. I wonder if he ever kissed his camel?

Actually marriage has not meant "anything special" to a lot of people for a very long time. When you have people going out and getting married one day while they are "under the influence" or "feeling romantic" and then cancelling (annulling/divorcing) the marriage the very next day; marriage doesn't mean a whole lot to them. We have also had an increasing number of people just living together without any ceremony (civil or religious) because marriage is "just a piece of paper" since the 60's.

I think you are right. When the whole story is known, it is not that big of a deal, really. More of a religious and cultural difference type thing.

hummm, interesting discussion redyellowblackdog. However, and mind this is just my opinion, I don't think so. I think that at least in this country, if it allowed in name only, someone will come along and use that as a legal standing to carry it further. The only reason I speak specifically of this country, is this is where I live, and I know nothing about other countries.

You are probably right that if animal marriages in name only were allowed someone would take that as an opening to create 'real' animal - human marriages. I guess lawyers and politicians are the same the world over.

some would definitely use it for that excuse.
