Do you find that it's expensive to care for your baby/toddler? How much money do you spend weekly on baby/toddler care on things like diapers, lotion, meds, etc. When my daughter was a baby, we spent a fortune on diapers. I can't remember how many diapers she went through daily, but it was a lot. Initially, we tried to save money by using cloth diapers, but by the time she turned 8 months, we gave up. Potty training was the only thing that ended up saving us money on that. Walmart brand diapers are rarely on special and so we always had to pay what they asked. As far as baby care and baby supplies, those were always expensive too. But, fortunately, they don't use up too quickly. Except for the baby lotions and such. We always needed a good supply of that. And, I'm not even counting baby clothes and other necessities. Of course, there was the baby food and that was an entirely new expense we weren't accustomed to. But, then again, money was tight. So, my spouse and I just cut back on things we had enjoyed for ourselves, like cable and magazines. We cut it out and gave the money to caring for the baby. We're used to doing without those things now. Now, our child is potty trained and eating regular table foods like the rest of the family, so we're putting all that money we spent on diapers into healthcare and savings for her college. What was your biggest baby care expense? Do you have any money saving tips for new moms or moms-to-be to help cut costs on baby care? Please share.

I honestly can't remeber as my four children are now 19, 10 and two 8 year olds. But I just had to add my comments! Hope that is ok? My twins were born just before my son's second birthday. He had a bowel problem which meant he was in nappies almost until he went to primary school. So I had THREE children in nappies. THREE loads of bottles, babies on baby milk 24/7. 2 year old on powder milk at night time. I never brought any wet wipes as the cost was too great and we would have used a pot/pkt + per day. Used wet flannels etc. Saving tips??? Just think twice before you buy it and make sure that you really do need to buy it! Hope that helps. PS I had girl/boy twins so they couldn't share many clothes.

Diapers were by far our biggest expense. I don't even remember how many were in the size 4 packs, which was what he was in when we started potty training. It seems like it was about 30 in the smaller pack, and he would go through about a pack and a half a week. We always watched for sales and stocked up when they had good sales. We used coupons, and figured out price per diaper with the price after coupon. A lot of times that was the smaller package when it was on sale. Of course my son could only use the most expensive diapers, so they went on sale a lot! But even with good sales and coupons, we would still spend around $50 on just diapers each month, if we didn't have any coupons, that total was closer to $65, even watching for sales. The wipes and the rash creams were an additional $25-30 each month. The soaps, shampoos, lotions, etc lasted a while, so they probably only cost us around $5 or so each month. We always used coupons on them, since we didn't go through them as fast, so that saved us a lot of money. One way that we saved money was to make some of our own baby food. I just put most of what we ate into a food processor. We did keep some baby food on hand for when I was fixing something that he couldn't have, but we made about half of his food. And used coupons and watched sales for the rest of it.
