Red for a kitchen counter colour? Strange as it may sound, I thought I would NEVER like the idea of red. Well it is actually more of a maroon melamine. I absolutely love it, coincidentally enough. Our kitchen is large enough and we have enough light coming in, that it doesn't look at all dark as I thought it would. Our cabinets are the same colour as in the picture I found and the walls beige (like the end wall in the pic. Backspace is white and beige...). Just imagine the counter tops a little more 'maroon'. The next challenge, however, is needing to put in a new floor...what do you suggest? We have wood flooring from our dining and living room and main hall way meeting the kitchen floor, so I don't rally want to do wood in the kitchen too... Type and colour to match???? I think I would like to stay away from ceramics. We had that in our last house, and hubby and I were not really impressed with it...Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated....thanks in advance!

What ever you do, don't put in laminate floors. In my opinion, they are the worst for keeping a clean look. I clean houses for a living and they are the worst to clean. No matter what you use on it, even just straight water, it looks streaky after it dries. I like just normal vinyl on the kitchen floor, personally. It cleans easy, is always shiny and isn't terrible expensve to buy. I would try to stick to a light color and one that is of a flat design, no little holes in the design. They tend to fill up with dirt and then is hard to get clean. This is only my opinion and advice.

Thanks so much, Chris. I'll definately take that into consideration. My hubby wants to go for the vinyl too...

That sounds very stylish. A maroon color could actually go with several different colors. You could have a lighter shade of the same color or a gray or cream color. You could even go with a tan or even bluish. Have fun with it.!
