Cat has 9 lives!

I have across in stories the term "Cat has 9 lives" when i was in school. Is it true that a cat has nine lives? Or what does it really indicate or mean? Can anyone explain?

in this world no one have more than 1 live i think its just a story that your grand parent told you

I think it is because cat has higher survival rates than other animals such as dogs. That's why this story is being passed down long long time ago!!

Cats do NOT have 9 lives. That is just a saying because cats are very limber and agile. Most will suffer little or no injury from a fall, but they will suffer the same fate as any other small creature when encountering a larger foe. If they can't out run or out fox them, they will be eaten.
