My mom had me in swim class before I could walk! This was because we had a pool in our back yard. I took to them really well and i think that was because of the teacher. It was a one on one session, the lady was expensive, but I learned to swim in no time! And I would say I'm a fairly strong swimmer now at 23.

I know how to swim and I would say im a fairly strong swimmer, however its not something I particularl enjoy much, but if I to go exercise then I would choose that over anything! I think your son would really benefit from going swimming now while he is young and it wont be too scary for him, good swimming lessons are great and it never hurts to know how to swim, just incase.

As soon as possible, would be my answer. I have even heard of classes where you can take newborns. I think 2 is a good age, because kids learn so much quicker the younger they are. I didn't learn until I was about 8. I still remember one of the Deacons from our church teaching me to swim. My parents knew how, but never really bothered with it too much. I am a water dog, and love to swim. I have also heard stories about young children getting hurt in water, so I think it would be best if they knew how to swim as young as possible.

WOW that is cool...i'll see what to do about it...but the thing is my son is so damn scared of water....he would never sit in a tub for his bath...he would only want a shower but would not enter the tub :( ...well have to find a way to let go of his fear ...thanks for responding.

I think I was about 6 when I took swimming lessons and really learned to swim. We had a membership at the local swimming pool and I practically lived there in the summertime. My son was 4 when he took lessons, but he is afraid of getting water on his face, so he only learned so much. My daughter is 16 months old and she has not had any swimming lessons yet, but she has also never been in a pool. I think that 2 is a pretty good age to start working on basic swimming skills with a child though.
