Personally, I hope we do - and soon! Yes, we need to develop alternate fuels, but while we're doing that, we need to find a way to reduce the cost and drilling here in the US will help that. Yes, we need to worry about the environment. But I think we can do that and drill. The environmentalists have been concerned about drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, but other countries are already doing that.

Well, you could end up hurting species in the areas you drill at, for one. Flora, fauna -- or if it's in the ocean (which is worse than on land, because the ocean's not doing so hot these days) bacteria, fish, and underwater plant life.
I'd be less against it if someone could present an idea on how to drill for oil without hurting anything. (Because as I've said alot on mylot these days, when all that's said and done, once we do run out of oil, and if we don't have more technology which isn't so reliant on it....all we'll have left is nature)
Just trying to cover all the bases...we need a wise solution with a minimal amount of damage which covers the long-term, not just the short-term.

It would be a good thing if there was more investment in alternative energies.
The governments could reinvest some of the extra taxes they have been raking in to help families willing to take up the greener options by subsidising the price of new technologies to consumers.

I agree! It would help alot of families these days, if the government was willing to pay them to live "green" =)

USA is already drilling for oil and is also the bigger oil consumer. Russia and China is doing it so far.
I think we should search for alternate energy at the same time. It is very difficult question, because USA economy is running on oil.

I think that we should drill in the US. We have been drilling off shore in Louisiana for decades and the rigs actually make resevoirs for wildlife. off shore drilling is the way to go.
