I just finished watching a film called, "Unidentified White Male." It was a documentary that told about a man who found himself riding on a subway train in New York. He didn't know what his name was, where he was going, or where he lived. He had no identification on him although he was carrying a backpack that had an English to Spanish dictionary in it.
The film explores the importance of one's identity and how he dealt with the loss of his own identity. Also, the film showed how he re-connected or attempted to, with his family members and friends. It was really an incredible film. I highly recommend it.
He was diagnosed with an amnesia of sorts called, "psychogenic fugue". He may or may not ever get his memory back.
Can you imagine what it would be like to not know who you are or where you are going? Or not to know what kind of person you've been or what your lifestyle was like?
