I have a silky terrier and he steals stuff! If he is in my room , he will get something and run out of the room! It can be a stuffed animal, paper,or a shoe. His all time favorite, is socks. He is always taking my daughter's socks. Is my dog a professional thief?

This sounds like most dogs. I have three right now and they love taking things. They like to take mostly socks, gloves, and shoes. They are pretty cool dogs because of their ability to steal things in front of you and wait for you to chase them around the table. They love that for some reason. They look you in the eyes and grab something that doesn't belong to them and just wait, wagging their tail. It's pretty funny.

That's funny. Your dog is not a thief. Your dog is just trying to play with you or seeking for your attention. Sometimes dogs are get bored and making some stuffs for them to noticed. My dog is like that too, before we used to play his ball but sometimes I am busy doing chores in the house that's why he just chasing me like he wanted to play with me and like crying or talking (Hmmptt..Hmmptt!)Dogs are very intelligent and very aggressive they tend to do things for them to get noticed and even want to have a belly rub just for a sake and feel them they were still love.

I'm sure that can get irritating but it sounds so cute! We have a dog that would sneak the kids stuffed animals and claim them. So finally we just got her her own toys!

How old is he? If he's still just a puppy then that is what puppies do. It's up to you to tell him what he can do and cannot do cause he doesn't know any better. Puppies don't come already trained and with human values. Whenever he gets something he shouldn't have, trade him for something he values more, a treat or one of his toys or anything he likes. He will continue to take your things if you don't train him not to. Also a tired pup is a good pup. Mine never stole any of my things when he was young cause I was out exercising him and playing with him so much that he only slept when I wasn't around. You might want to try to increase his exercise to have better chances to train him out of that behaviour.

Sounds like a little scallywag. I'm sure he sees it as a game since when he does it you probably chase him down to get the item back. So no, I don't think he's a thief... just a playful puppy that wants to play a game with you.

wow. you can ask the dog to take a diamond from a jewelry store. kiddin. puppies are like that. they have that personality when they want to play. that is so cute of them. just make sure nothing valuable is on his/her reach.

Maybe he is...lol. My Peke doesn't do this, but my Pommie is forever doing it. I think she figures it's a game. She takes a sock, or other piece of clothing (usually of the undergarment type) and we chase her down to get it back. I am trying to break her of this habit, but have been unsuccessful as of yet.
