I'm not particularly superstitious, but my mom was big time! For example. We could never put new shoes on the table! Anyone ever heard of that. When my kids do it, I explain to them how Grandma felt about it, and they usually take them off. lol Couldn't open an umbella in the house. I admit I do adhere to this one, although its kinda silly to do so anyway don't ya think? Oh and a good one: she would never give someone a compliment without saying "God bless you" after it. Like..."Your so pretty, God bless ya" or...."Her son is so smart, God bless him" and if someone did it without saying God bless you, she would add it herself! Anyone ever heard of this before?
Do any of you have any odd or common superstitions that you abide by? Or know anyone else that is superstitious? Does anyone know how any of these superstitions originated?
by the way, I have 2 black cats and they cross my path constantly!! lol :)

Well i haven't heard before of a few things you said that are superstitious things...well the ones i know or heard is not to open the umbrella n the last one of the cats ...well could be there is a reason behind a few things which is why they just became superstitious things...like i dont know what would happen if a shoe was kept on the table..but that would make the table dirty :) lol ...so this would have become a superstitious thing that way some people listen and would not want any harm to come to them ..well not all but some people are like that :). i had been to a friends place n i wanted to take a picture of her and 2 other friends...that made 3 of them...she just was not happy she said that there should not be an odd number in the snap....that was so strange..so there still exist such people who beleive a few things like these :)

I've never heard that one about the photo..interesting. I know its against the Amish religeon to have pictures (graven images) taken of them at all, but I never heard anything about the number of people in a photo.
