why cant we sleep if our eyes are open???

Since you say its a funny discussion...the answer would be because u cant see with your eyes open ;) lol...kidding :) ...well when u close ur eyes your mind relaxes and so u need to lie down as well so your whole body relaxes....when u close ur eyes you get a relaxed feeling may be thats Y :)

Well, Our eyes need to be closed in order to go to sleep. If our eyes are opened, we are not able to get the sleep that we need.

Thats an interesting question, something I have never thought about, I guess it is one thing we all just take for granted, I guess closing the eyes could be like pulling the blinds down for our brains...
