My freinds hair is falling out

I have been away on holiday for a couple of weeks and come back to one of my friends who is very distressed about her hair falling out. She has a fabulous head of thick blonde hair and a beautiful face, she is very upset. She has been told by her doctor that it is a genetic problem and that nothing can be done. What would you say to your freind with the same problem. I am very interested to know the ways in which others would respond. thanks in advance

I'd tell her to find another doctor. Pattern baldness can be treated through medication, if that's the cause of her hair loss. Unless she's been evaluated for a variety of hormone problems, I don't understand how he can automatically assume that there's no larger cause. Especially if she's just started losing it in large quantities over the the past couple of weeks. I had about half of my hair fall out over the course of about three or four months and ended up being referred to an endocrinologist for testing. I now have my hair back.

Thanks for that - she has been to several doctors I believe and has been told that there is no possibility of a cure. She will defenately go bald eventually is what they have said to her. I agree that it sounds harsh and ultimately she believes it and if that is the case regardless of others she will in her low state loose her hair. I will tell her your expereience thanks for that - it may give her comfort - who knows Thanks for comment

I didn't know she'd already been to see a couple of doctors. If they've all said the same thing, I'm guessing she's probably got a correct diagnosis. Which stinks. :( If she's got a pretty face, I'm assuming that she could easily rock the bald look. :) I have a girlfriend who's bald as a cue ball (she bic's her head), and she looks a ton better without her hair. She has a wicked collection of flashy, stylish hats and scarves, too.

My wife is a doctor and says it could be really a genetic problem. No special diet may be applied here, nor usual medication. So, there is not much we can do, only hope everything will be all right...

Yes thats what she has been told and this is why she is depressed because she thinks that nothing can be done no matter what she tries - thanks for your response
