I hear the patter of tiny feet,or could it be claws?

For a couple of days now we have been watching a blackbird go in and out of a wild geranium that climbs over an arch at the back of the house. We took a peek today, making sure not to go too close, and YES!!!..there is a beautifully made nest....so perfect....and she is so busy with it....what a wonderful sight it is.Im hoping that nothing will frighten her away..

That is so fabulous. I do hope you don't have cats. Or if you do, that you at least have a large high powered water pistol at the ready! Are you leaving scraps out for Mummy Blackbird? I don't suppose she needs them at this time of year, but it's fun to watch. My Grandmum has a blackbird that greets her when she goes to the kitchen in the morning. It pecks at the glass to attract her attention and demand it's breakfast. Friends of ours have a nest that's been build in a hole in the wall of the passage tot heir house, at exactly child's eye level. I don't know what posessed the Mummy Bird to put it there, but I'm sad to say that I doubt it will survive. Amazingly the eggs have survived long enough to hatch, and the little ones call to you as you pass. I collared the kids and had a chat to them about scaring Mum etc etc but I don't think they'll be able to help themselves when it comes to standing and staring. I just hope she's able to feed them plenty during school hours!

We have cats that visit the garden, and ive never deterred them because i rather like cats..and our little dog just sits at the back door and looks at them..given a few years ago he would have given them a run for their money!!1My Mum is treaching me the different calls that they make!!I was laughing my head off at her doing the different calls..but she has it off to a tee!!!..bless her..

I had to read that several times. i was wondering why your Mum was teaching you cat calls, but I guess you mean blackbird calls don't you?! We got a BBC soundtrack record from the library once which contained cat noises. We played it to Mum & Dad's cats. They are highly strung creatures at the best of times, but they went even more mental than normal and started howling along. Every time we wanted a good laugh after that we got the record out!
