On the 31st January 2008 the Seatruck ferry Riverdance ran aground on Anchorsholme beach, Cleveleys (just north of Blackpool). All crew were rescued but plans to refloat the stricken vessel were thwarted constantly by bad weather.
Eventually due to the ship sinking into the sand it was then decided that the ship would be scrapped where it lay and this has been slowly done since the 29th April 2008 and is estimated to reach completion by the end of June.
This shipwrecked boat has drawn in thousands of visitors since it happened, and we were among those it attracted!!Funny how something like this draws people in and makes them want to see it, after doing some research on it I have come across virtually hundreds of photos and videos of it on youtube and various other sites. But somehow it was exciting, not just for the children but for me and hubby too, in fact I would go as far as to say that for me it was definately one of the best highlights of my holiday!!
One of the photos that I managed to take of the boat, closest I could get as unfortunately the tide was always in.
Did you ever go and visit a place because of a shipwreck?
Or maybe another unusual event that happened drew you to go and visit a place?

wow! That is a wonderful place then. I had visited al old church before that was made in the 1920's and no renovations and repainting were done until this very moment. Near the altar, it had a big whole down to a well and the tourist guide told us that the people before use to hide there during the Japanese regime in my Country. When the soldiers will check inside, they will see nothing since it has also a cover part of the floor so no one will really think that people down there are hiding.

Blackpool is not a bad place, and although expensive can be fun, more so if you have never visited. I think for me I have outgrown it and my expectations were too high.
The church you went to sounds really interesting the sort of thing I would love to visit.

no unfortunately, I have never had the opportunity to visit a shipwreck or any unusual place for that matter, I loved the falls in Niagara Falls Ontario, they are so majestic, the mighty water is amazing to see.

I have never actually seen a shipwrecked boat honey but I can understand why it would be exciting - especially when you know that the crew didn't die! I can't think of anything like that I have been to but I would definitely have gone to see it if I were closer! xxx

We dont have shipwrecks in my neck of the woods. i have gone to visit communities that have been struck by tornadoes though. On one occasion we even donated a chainsaw to the folks.

What is the point for vacation?
It is just a chance not to live an average life and to do something different. No matter what you saw,ate and did is part of your valuable life experience. Later you can share them with you friends and relatives.
