i was watching a grilling contest on TV and saw that most of the contestant are men. and one contestant was claiming that grilling is a man's domain. although there are contestants too who are women. so for you is grilling a man's domain? what can you say about that? can you also explain why there are more man than woman joining in such contest like this?

It does seem that there are more men than women that do the grilling, I know it's true at our house. I think part of that is due to the fact that it gives women a chance to take a break from doing all the cooking. I also know that my s/o loves grilling during the summer, and more times then not he fixes steaks or chicken on the grill during the week and on weekends, and all I have to do is toss a salad together. Matter of fact, he joked about that last week, I went out started up the grill and fixed some link sausage, he told me 'don't get too used to that' lol referring to me cooking on 'his' grill lol He also has an apron that is a play on words, it says 'Grill Sergeant' lol

maybe yes maybe no i really dont know the answer. i grew up in a house where my dad does not like much of barbeques and now i have my own family and i am separated from my husband so there are no really man. i have a 16 year old son and he helps put if i grill something but still i can not say if it is a man's domain. i see most grillers on tv are man maybe because in a contest there are more bigger machine used so it is handled by mostly man. thats what i think

I'm not a man and I've always liked grilling. I've noticed there are a lot of men who are willing to grill something, but seem reluctant to cook something in the kitchen, so maybe they would say it's a man's domain. I've never figured understood why. I asked my husband what was the appeal for grilling and he said something about playing with fire. That might make sense for those who use a fire pit or grill with charcoal.

I know a couple of women who 'own' their grills, but I think you're right that most people have the man working the grill, if they've got a man. I hate grilling because of the heat, the smoke, etc. (I need air conditioning to cook, lol), but my guy absolutely loves it. He doesn't mind if I get 'all up in his grill' :) but I'm quite happy to let him take care of it. It gives me a break from cooking. Before we had an actual grill, I did all of the grilling on a grill pan in the kitchen, though. I wonder if, at those competitions, women aren't really encouraged to attend. I can imagine a percentage of the all-male grillforce being rather intimidating and displeased. Maybe they're worried that, if they're single, they'll find a grillin' woman who'll want to do all of the grilling? :)
