Have you ever adopted a pet from the pound? We rescued one of our cats from the pound when she was a kitten and I would definitely consider adopting another one in the future. Here's a picture of her:)

Guinness - our dogggie!
we rescued our puppy from our local pug rescue shelter. He's a pug/ beagle mix and we just got him last month - he's 2 years old and so cute!

Yes. Why get bred ones, especially since there are so many mills, and it is sad what humans do for money though their expense. You can save more lives from the shelter. We have two. It's the only way to go in my opinion.

Simon - Here is a photo of my other cat Simon. He's a 10 year old Tonkinese. He's definitely the most loyal pet I've ever had. He's like my little guardian angel.
I definitely think it's a great idea to adopt animals from shelters whenever you can. There are some no kill shelters, but unfortunately not all of them are. A lot of the older animals or ones who have been there longer have to be put down and I hate to see that. Our local shelter has started spaying and neutering all of the animals before they are adopted out to help prevent adding to the pet population and I think that's a great idea. Your cats are gorgeous by the way. Your torti reminds me of Tasia - she never just meows. She has a chirpy meow that almost sounds like she's singing sometimes. She can carry on a conversation with you forever too. I think it's adorable but it annoys my husband sometimes because she is always carrying on about something! Here is a photo of my other cat Simon. He's a 10 year old Tonkinese. He's definitely the most loyal pet I've ever had. He's like my little guardian angel.

My dog - We adopted Chester from a pound almost 6 years ago and he was a complete and utter mess. Was terrified of everyone and everything. Was disobedient and really tough to try and get him to trust us but he eventually calmed down and is now the biggest softy I know. I love him to bits!
We adopted our dog from a pound. He was in an absolutely awful state - terrified of everyone and everything. Even if you picked up a newspaper he would start cowering so he must have been beated really badly and it broke our heart. He was really difficult for about 6 months - wouldn't obey us at all and was always trying to escape bless him. He lacked trust big time. Now he is the sweetest most loving animal I have ever met. He is super with our kids and although he hates cats and vehicles hes a little softy. I love him to bits!

He's a beautiful dog! I'm glad you gave him a chance even though he was in a pretty bad state when you saw him. I love hearing stories like this where animals get a second chance at being happy and finding a loving home.

Thats how I get most of my animals. I don't go to the pound, they are usually strays that adopt me. Here is a pic of my latest adoptees. I have 2 of them left, I will keep the last 2.

I've never picked up a pet from a pound but all my dogs are those who had no home picked up from the road side. In india dog pounds are not very well known and as you have a lot of stray dogs around the place, its easy to pick one up and take it home. I have picked up dogs which have been hurt and nursed them back to health and now they are best ever, most loving creatures.

That's really sweet that you help out dogs who have been injured. I never knew that there were so many stray dogs in India. I hope most of them are friendly! Have you ever had an enounter with a vicious stray dog?

Daisy, spared from the pound - female boxer dog
Yes. We adopted a beautiful, male yellow lab from the pound. He was a wonderful dog. Our current 4-legged baby, Daisy, was on her way to the pound and we convinced the people to let us have her rather than take her to the pound.

She's very pretty. That's great that you took her in along with adopting your lab. Thanks for replying!

Morrison - Likes his toys!
Yes, my Zoe was adopted something like four years ago from the local humain society (they do euthanize with CO a horrible way to kill an animal) but she is a wonderful pet. She is the tortie. The other adoption was from a no kill shelter. Morrison is a tiger. Very playful! We have five cats now, at our cap. 8^)

Simon and Tasia - My two gorgeous cats!
Your cats are gorgeous! I would love to have a few more cats around, but we have our hands full with the two we have right now. I don't think I could handle adding a nother one since these two demand so much attention!

I highly recommend adopting from an animal shelter. There are some very sweet animals there who deserve a second chance!

My dogs are both pound puppies. We also had a shelter rabbit and guinea pig once! My girlfriend has shelter ferrets.

Wow, that's great that you have both adopted so many of your pets! I've seen guinea pigs at our local shelter a few times, but never a rabbit or ferrets.

When I was a teenager my family adopted a purebred cocker spaniel from the local shelter. It was our first dog and he had some problems, but he was a great pet. When I had my kids he was wonderful with them. Even though he was getting older he was extremly tolerant of the and woul play with them for hours. Sadly last year he became ill and had to be put to sleep. My really family misses him, but we are glad to have had him.

I haven't, though we usually end up keeping strays instead of taking them to the pound. The pound is a very sad place to visit.

That's great that you help out the strays that you find. It's definitely better than letting them wander the streets. I do get sad sometimes when I visit the pound, but I try to go pretty often just to give the animals some extra love and attention. The hard part is walking out and not wanting to bring one of them home with me. My two cats would be very angry with me though if I brought a new one home!

I think its great to adopt from the pound. You're giving an animal a home. And you often fall in love with animals pretty quickly.

That's very true. I feel like both of my cats picked me. Simon, my tonkinese, was my first indoor cat and he came from the pet store. He was brought in with his siblings by a couple whose cats had kittens. My parents were never really for the idea of having a cat or dog indoors, but when they saw how quickly Simon and I bonded they caved in pretty fast! He was so tiny that I could him in one hand and when I held him up to my face to look at him he licked my nose. It was love at first sight!
