Am I Talking to Myself ???

Whenever I start a discussion and people reply, I try to reply to their replies. And in my reply I usually ask them a question, to keep the conversation going. But normally I never hear back from anyone.
The only people I do hear back from are the ones on my friends list. I guess they are the only ones who get a notification that I replied to them.
If that is true, then there is really no sense in replying again to people who are not my friends, right? I'm just talking to myself... Unless they by chance happen to come back and look at the discussion again sometime.
Am I right, or am I missing something?

Everybody on myLot is my friend.I seldom bother about the friends list. When someone requests I add them as a matter of course. I reply to everyone who responds not only because they are a friend , but also because it adds content to the Post. I try to bring a new thread to the discussion in this way. I can't imagine anyone on myLot not being a friend. We are all in this together, why worry so much about friendship? Try taking it forgranted and you will have a much better experience here on Our myLot!

Yes I got an email telling me that you responded to my comment, and yes I am not on your friends list (even tho I do include you as a friend. Everyone with whom you respond gets an email! You might as well forget about the " friends list" its much like the "star rating" Not worth the paper it isn't written on!
If you had 200 friends and they all started a discussion and you got an email announcement, what would you do? I think you'd be snowed under with emails. No this isn't what happens here on myLot. So I am letting you know!

Ok, Thanks for letting me know your got a notification.
That's good to know that it works that way.
I also like that I get email notifications when people on my friends list start a new discussion. Then I can be sure that I won't miss out on commenting on them. So I think that is a good reason to have friends on the list.
It's also nice to have friends like you that don't want to be on the list, but still find their way to my discussions.

Oh no, no, no, That's not what I meant.
Sure, I'd be friends with everyone here too, but what I was talking about was this:
If someone on my list of friends starts a discussion I will get an email telling me so.
But if YOU start a discussion, I would have no idea, because you are not on my list of friends.
Now, right now, I am responding to your comment you left.
I don't think Mylot will send you an email telling you I am typing this message to you. I think I will have to take the chance and just hope you come back and read this, so you know I am talking to you, and not to myself.
That was my quesion. Am I talking to myself, or are people being notified that I am typing another message to them?

That is correct momalisa! If they are not in your list and vice versa , they will not be notified that you responded to their response and the discussions will eventually stop. that happen to me when I first started here, I just response to any topic/post I will bump since I didn't know that after I add friends, I need to turn on the notifications.I was tired of my routine and finally ask someone how to keep track of my friends post.

Yes, you are one person on my friends list, so you will probably find out I am typing this to you, right?
I guess we really don't make any extra money when we keep replying beyond our original comment anyway, right?
I'm not sure about that either.

I don't get the notification so I know I miss out unless I go back and check the discussion. I think it happens to all of us :)

I think at times people think they will come back to it but forget.happens to me all the time.
I have enough emails in my inbox that I have disabled all unnecessary ones so I hope to catch up on any comments when I get to them but if not, hope there's no direct questions to answer. I think the messaging would be appropriate then..

Hello MomaLisa65, I get notifications when ever someone answers my response whether ar not they are on my friends list or not. I think it depends on how they have there notifications set, I do know what you are talking about though. When someone asks a question of me, I'll answer it and then I hear nothing back. I dont think your missing anything, its just that they are missing out on what might be a good conversation. :)

Hi! I think most people looking for some important topic to discussed on and didn't have time to see you questions only. I think sometime talking to yourself is good sometime. lol I'm just kidding. I don't think they ignore you but I think most of them searching the topic that they like and miss out your comments.

Well, a lot of it could be like for me, for example. My time on here some days is quite limited. So most of the time when I come in here, it is to respond to a couple of discussions, maybe start a New one if I can and go back to doing something else. So maybe there are others like me. I know very seldom on my discussions when I respond back to someone do they ever respond back, so you are not the only one.

That is what i normally see here. There are time when I comment to a discussion and if there is not anything else to add to the comment I don't answer back. I hope that i'm not being rude. Even when i have received and answer from a comment you can tell the ones that you can answer back to and the ones that are not looking for an answer. Then i think i should just start answering back period. So I won't make someone feel like you have described.

Oh,may be someone haven't seen the notification.I think if they really like to talk about this discussion they will come back and response to it again.
But you shouldn't give it up only because this.You should believe that maybe someone will response to it.

You are right. People don't generally reply to responses posted by others. The thing is there is no interactive paneln the discussions screen itself to notify them. The best way to increase responses is to (hope this is noticed by mylot team.) place a sortie/widget on the top of the page, preferably beside the search box which notifies of responses or tags added by others. Then we could respond to posts other than our friends' alone.

I get emails when I post in discussions and the writer responds to it so I can go back and reply to whatever they said about my comments.
