it is usually a scam, like what you have replied to the first person who replied here. but for those good antivirus that is free, they're because thay lack several features like firewall, anti-spyware etc. free is good, but if you real security, pay one. you do not think that the developers will just program and get tired just for releasing it for free right? i dont trust AVG Free Edition.

i dont know which one is good, i am not 100% trusting to these product but at least we computer still have a protection, so we know if there is a problem about the computer than it maybe a virus, it is so expensive to buy the best one, so it is still a valuable if there is a free one, i want to say this because after a long time we have to format our computer too, so have a good enough antivirus is still same like have a good one.

You can check avast. It is a good free antivirus. I used it for many years and it does help me. The reason they give it out for free, there are so many competition right now. There are more than 10 companies who sell anti virus. The free copy that you can download from the internet, usually only antivirus program, not including other feature that are also important. But if you are a home user, the free antivirus is already enough to protect your computer, better than nothing.

oh it mean they want to build their reputation so everyone will know about them, and this mean the free antivirus just do a basic protection to our computer including some upgrade, also in the same time they keep promoting they advance or professional products to they user for buying.

AVG is anti-virus for free and have very good protection. I think the reason they giving that free is to promote their paid-version, in this case they will try to let you know that even free version is good, and update version is better.

I use Antivir from Avira. It works quite well and has free updates too. The only catch is everytime you update, they promote their premium version. And some premium features aren't included in the free edition, such as protection against spywares or email guard.
