I am famous!

Wherever I go, whether to shops, a doctors, hospital, businesses, anything at all, I come across people who know me... at least by face. They address me by name, start conversations with me and ask questions like 'Don't I know you from somewhere?' I wonder if this is how real celebrities feel... constantly having strangers speaking to them. Yup, that's me... the celebrity check-out chick! You see, I work as a check out operator in a major grocery store so I am constantly dealing with a lot of people, I serve thousands of customers every week. Consequently, my face becomes well known to a huge number of people. Do you have a job like this? One where you deal with a lot of people who you constantly end up bumping into outside work?

In a way I prefer working with the public. I get to meet so many people, go ga-ga over the babies. It is occasionally a challenge when you get a customer who is deliberately obnoxious but thankfully that is rare.

I'm famous, too, because of my activism and writing work. Lots of people know me, and have even brought my books, but I don't remember them, which is embarrassing.

Wow, now that's the sort of celebrity status I really want. Under the circumstances however, it's not surprising that you don't remember them or know them. Most of them you've probably never even met. What sort of writing and activism do you do? I've sent you a friendship request so if you want to accept and answer by PM then feel free.

That kind of thing can be surprising can't it. I've been working at my current job for almost 7 years. So I've met, seen and been seen by a LOT of people over that time.

My job is at office, so I didn't get to deal with so many clients. But then, I have many colleagues, it's about 200 plus of us working at the same building. So, kinda scared to deal with so many people. But it's no doubt a wonderful experience to help me to be more open and related to the society.

Yeah, I think our staff levels would be about the same. Though there would only be about 50 there at any time (shift work)

my work is inside the office, i deal with clients but most of them i have not seen face to face. there are those i have met in person due to some meetings but they are the same people i meet everywhere. though we work in a big company and with lots of people (csrs or reps) we do not really know each other very well.

I think that is fairly common in these times. With our busy lifestyles our friendships and relationships have suffered. Meaning we don't tend to socialise as much any more.

I used to have a work which made me meet a lot of people everywhere and it's wonderful really. LOL, Like last time in my Country where I left my wallet, good thing the driver of the public transpo had that patience and I was looking around to check if I knew someone so I can borrow some money to pay the driver, luckily I found! She saved me from that incident!LOL, Anyway, It is amazing to know a lot of people and meet them outside the work!

The funny thing is that they know my name (because I wear a name badge) but I don't know theirs. I get to know the kids names because I constantly hear parents yelling, 'Johnny, don't do that, stop pulling your sister's hair.' etc LOL

I'm hopeless at remembering peoples names. Great with remembering numbers. LOL, my ex husband used to say that if they xrayed my brain they'd find a phone book in there. But when it comes to remembering names I'm just like you.. I'll remember faces but often can't remember where I saw them.

YES! Know the feeling! I used to tend bars, and obviously I got to meet a lot of people. So many people know who I am, who my family is, where I live...it`s a rather small city as well. It feels so strange though, as when I was out shopiing decorations for my daughters christening, I asked the clerk if she had any bright pink flowers , she smiled and said "Of course, *** (my name)! Out shopping decorations for the big event next week?" huh?? Do I know you, how do you know this?? Real spooky. Sometimes I wonder what it`s like for famous people, how strange it must be everyone knowing evrything about them

LOL, it can be like that... a little freaky at times. Of course, having school age children compounds it too because I'm constantly at the school so parents see me there and at my work. Sometimes when I go somewhere I feel like hiding because it can be a little embarassing to have someone that I really don't know come up and start talking to me. LOL
