with ANTS. No matter what, where I live we have ants and or spiders. So far this week we have found and disposed of between 15-20 of these little critters. We have an appointment for spraying on Thursday. Do you have a similar problem? How do you combat it?

I battle with ants all the time they seem to come in no matter what I try. They are some tips that I found on a few sites that I want to try like putting baby powder down where they come in and it is suposed to suffocate them when they walk through it cause it clings and then they can't breathe another one was sprinkling cream of wheat down or cornmeal and letting them eat it and it swell up after they eat and they can't digest it so they die. I have heard and seen on a site to wipe things down with plain white vinegar, yeah it stinks but it says that after it dries you can no longer smell it. I have tried this and it did stop the ants in that area but the little buggers found another entry into the house. I have animals plus small children visit and stay with me often so poisons isn't an option.

I cleaned out the gutters of my house the other day. Ants swarmed us after that. I think they are related. I think this tiny little ants are making their homes in our gutters. I think so, I can't prove it.

I have ants this year, for the first time in a LONG time! I have a very effective, kid/pet friendly solution. I don't know if it kills the ants or not, but it DOES keep them away! Simply sprinkle cinnamon around your windows, baseboards, doorways, wherever the ants are getting in. It smells nice, and they won't go past it! I tried it out on our fruit-bowl, where the ants were most attracted. I lightly sprinkled cinnamon in a small circle on my counter, then sat the bowl down on it. Next day, not a single ant! I've used it other places, too, and it works great.

We had a problem with carpenter ants last year. I killed at least 5 and usually more every day for about 2 weeks or so. The reason we had the problem was because we have a drought in my area and they were coming in looking for moisture. We just kept killing them whenever we would see them and then we sprayed around the perimeter of the house and finally, it kept them away but, not before I must have killed nearly 50 of the huge a$$ ants. Ugh! They were so bad that the cats, who usually love to torture little multi-legged intruders, lost interest and didn't even bother with them anymore. LOL!
So, just get an insecticide that you can spray along the perimeter of your house and, I would keep up with it. I think my hubby sprayed once a week until they finally stopped coming.
Good luck!

There was one house we lived in that was a constant battle to keep the ants away. There must have been a huge colony in the yard somewhere. It was ridiculous and quite frustrating.
One time, we just couldn't get rid of them, I'd tried natural remedies and had it sprayed to no avail. Then I found their nest...it was a backpack down in the basement in the "storage corner" that belonged to my daughter and she had left a SUCKER in the pocket! The ants were in little ant heaven on earth!!! I threw it outside, hosed it down and that episode was over.
Another time they were behind the couch. I put down a line of...baking soda and cayenne pepper, I think...to stave them off from migrating further into the house until the "bug guy" came and sprayed.
Another time, they would be in my dishwasher every single morning. (EWW.) Never saw them anywhere else. So, I put some baking soda (borax would do it, too) in some honey. They think it's food and haul it back to the nest where it is eaten and they all die. That ended that episode after about 2 days.
