First day in tele-sales and I sold nothing!

This was horrible. I sold nothing today. The weather was bad and we had headphone and computer glitches. Plus people hanging up and all kinds of stuff. At this rate, I'll never make commissions. Ever have a day like that? How long do you think this will go on? How long do you think they'll keep me if I don't sell anything? I hope this is the only day I have like this. But I've been told it's been a rough couple of weeks for most people there.

Gosh, writersedge. I am very sorry that you have had a tough day in your job of tele-sales. It sounds like your work is quite stressful and perhaps, difficult! I admire your tenacity to keep trying.
I am not that familiar with tele-marketing types of jobs. Do you have sales quotas to meet or are they flexible with that? This is a tough time in terms of the economics of our country to be calling peoples' homes and trying to sell them something. Surely your bosses are aware of that.
Yes, I have had many tough days in my work life over the years and do understand there are days that one "white-knuckles it" just to get through it. One time many years ago, I even went in the restroom, closed the stall door, and screamed as loud as I could, from the frustration!
Hope your work stress reduces over the next few days and that you have more success. Take care and do hang in there.

My second day, I got consistant support, it may not have been as much as I would have liked, but it was the best other people while also trying to do the same thing could give me. I did make two sales, but they were the bare minimum. If I want to stay, I have to get more sales than that. Not sure I want to stay. Take care

writersedge,
It can be frustrating and even scary on your first day of work if there's no one there to offer proper training and support. Sounds a little like poor planning, but at least you made it through the day with the knowledge that some people were achieving alot of sales.
Hope your next days are better and that you get much more support. Take care.

Sold nothing for a month? How does she stand it?
Did you mean former worker like she won't have a job? It sounds like she is under a lot of stress now or as our slang says, really stressing.
Best wishes to her and you. She's got it rough! Thanks and take care.

Telemarketing is a crappy job. Get used to it. Most people will hang up on you. Some will even be verbally abusive. I did call center work where people called to order products. You have a higher rate of sales there, lol. But a lot of people get turned off by the upsells. And there are a lot of prank calls especially during summer break. You have to be a smooth talker to talk people into buying anything or they get suspicious. This is not a job to make big money off if you cold call people.
Will they keep you if you don't sell anything? Probably not. This is a high turnover type of job. People burn out quickly. Few like it, lol. I wish you good luck!

This is call in, we don't call out. It's sales based on commercials. I did phone government and business surveys before that were call outs and at least I got something done.
I did regular sales in a store and my first day I sold to 10 people.
I'm used to the rude and nasty from the survey job.
They told us how great we would be doing this week. I think they blow a lot of smoke to get people to stay, try it.

Do you do this from home or at an actual workplace?

Actual workplace. I commute 25 miles each way. I make min. wage unless I actually not only sell something, but sell more than what most people call in. So I'm supposed to not just sell but sell more and create commission sales for my income.
