I am not talking about your cellphones here because all cellphones are cordless phones. For the phone(s) in your house, do you get cordless ones or those with cords leading to the socket? For me, I think the technology for cordless phone still doesn't cut. I have tried many brands and models of cordless phones but they tend to not work too well after some time. It is either that the reception becomes bad or the battery dies too soon. And we don't even have a habit of tossing the phone around. :P Nevertheless, we still make do with a cordless set in the living room. But for the phone in my own room, I have a "corded" one. It is quite inconvenient but if I really want to c-h-a-t, I want to be able to hear the other party loud and clear. I also want to have the freedom to chat for 10 straight hours without needing to charge any battery. What about you? Do you use cordless or "corded" phones at phone? Any experience to share? Or are you solely relying on cellphones and do not have any phone in the house?

Growing up we did not have corldless phones till I was a teen . Glad we fianlly got one because I used to love to talk in peace , who doesnt ;) My gram always had a phone in her kitchen and never switched , that used to be a pain always having to sit at the hard kitchen table . It is a pain when you do have to re-charge or worse the phone will just die . We have a back up run of the mill phone if that ever happens. I know many people who dont have phones at all , just a cell . I could never do that !

We have a cordless set of 3 phones. I don't find any difference in the quality. As long as you speak into the mouthpiece it is the same. We have a plugged in phone in the kitchen but I hate it. It has no call display and I like to screen my calls. Because we have 3 phones, if the battery needs charging on one, then I can always use another one. If the battery needs charging in the middle of a phone call I will wander around the house to find another phone and then change phones in the middle of the conversation. I don't lose the connection. I also like to be able to continue whatever I'm doing when the phone rings. I hate having to drop everything to answer the phone and listen to someone chat on end keeping me from getting stuff done.

Surely cordless phones has its bad and good sides. We also encounter those things you have mention like battery low easily and a static reception plus sometimes it can be put anywhere that its hard to find once you needed it just like in remote control (this one definitely our fault). yeah, the lifespan of cordless phone today seems to be decreasing no matter how expensive it is. Just one of its characteristic that can suppress all its bad sides is its "mobility".

Hi lordwarwizard! I do use a corded phone at home because like you, I just want to hear the voice at the other end with much clarity and could talk for hours if need be. haha..However, I just switched on the cordless in the mornings because that is the time when I have so many things to do and the calls just keep coming in and can't wait. So, I need to be multi-tasking..talking on the phone, preparing and cooking the meals for the entire day, cleaning the house, doing laundry on my scheduled day, ironing the clothes on a scheduled day, or going over the business appointments/orders or whatever and sometimes in between those chores, I tend to sneak on mylot. haha..But after lunch, I rather use the corded phone wherein I can relax a bit. Take Care and God Bless!

tsk tsk - You are in the running for best response!
Lotsa calls in the morning? Then yes, you have no choice but to rely on the cordless.

I am probably one of the few people in the world that has a ROTARY phone still, lol. Our house was built in the 70's and it has the same phone that was brought with it. We're not allowed to get rid of our rotary phone because my mother in law has it in her name and won't let us transfer it or change it (her mother lived in our house before us!) So...that being said, yes, the cordless phone is so much nicer...except we can't even use one here because our phone lines are set on pulse for rotary and so most touchtone phone systems can't recognize it when we press the numbers!

I use both! I like the convenience of cordless and have a very good one that has high quality sound and reception. It's a cheap, $20 GE model and I'm on my second one in 5 years. Not bad for a cheap model, I love it. I have corded phones in the living room and in my bedroom. If the electricity goes out I want access to a phone! Of course, I could use my cell but what if it needs to be charged? I usually keep it charged but sometimes I forget and it gets low. My motto is "always have a backup" so I make sure I have a phone to use, with three different types in my house.

I really prefer to use the cordless phone. But we live in a brick house and only get good reseption in certain rooms. The brick seems to block the signels. So we have to use corded phones in those rooms. The other problem that we have with the cordless phones is that they seem to pick up any noice in the room and echo it back at you while the corded phones do not do that.

I dont own a cell phone, never have actually, so I rely on my house phone. And yes I much prefer cordless over corded...BUT I really should invest in a decent cord phone for those times when the power goes out..When we have no power we have no phone since all 4 of them in the house are the cordless..

Well well, I have no really good models to recommend.

I much prefer cordless phones, as they're so much more convenient that corded ones. I get restless whilst I'm on the phone, so being able to walk around is preferable to having to sit in one spot. I have never noticed that our cordless phones have bad reception, or a poor battery life. I suppose it depends what sort you have though, you get what you pay for. I live with friends, and have a corded phone for the first time in years. It's only a cheap thing, and the reception is appalling on it. Much better to spend a little more and get quality.

How much do you spend on cordless phones? To be fair, I haven't spent tons of money. I don't think we have got any sets more than $200-300.

I like the freedom cordless phones give you, but I hate that they have to be charged - my family is terrible about returning the phone to the base!

Cordless phones, to me, are a great thing! I remember growing up and all we had was a wall mounted one and so if your wanted to talk you really couldn't go very far! Or you had to put it down and then come back. You're right about the battery. With our phone, I have to make sure it is plugged in (on the stand) every night or else it will be worthless in the morning. Is there any brand you would recommend? I need to replace this one! The reception is really getting bad...almost as bad and the battery!

Yes, they are a great invention! I just feel though that they are still somewhat lacking. I remember the days when we were so excited that a phone can be cordless - we kept testing how far OUTSIDE the phone we can still use the cordless phone.

After the cord phone we had for years was so old it broke we brought some cordless phones for the house. I have never used cordless before, so it was a completely new experience to me. We've had the cordless phones for a good 5 years now and we haven't replaced them with a new version. I haven't had a single problem them at all, the battery power is good and they've never broken. I love having the cordless phone it provides you with so much more movement. I can move around and do little odds while i'm on the phone. I can also move somewhere more private to talk. With the cord phone i never had privacy. I just find the the cordless more convenient and as i've never had a problem with them they are reliable in my eyes.

I don't even own a corded phone. I know I need to get one for when the power goes out. I just like the cordless ones because I can take it with me outside and over to my mom's house, which is next door. I may break down one day and get a corded one, but not today.

I prefer cordless phones because then I can sit and talk anywhere I want to. I can even sit out on the patio. I have not had problems with using my cordless phone. However, I now have only a cell phone and I no longer have a land line.

Our house phone is cordless as you can talk anywhere in the house with it, but I prefer to talk on my mobile as the signal is a lot better.
