What are some good ways to motivate or interest my 13 year old in math?

There are a number of important key things to emphasize. The first is really to get across the idea that math is all around you. It is part of the world. People think of math as just algebra, etc., but it is really the language and science of patterns, and patterns are all around us. So get her (or him) to look around for examples of interesting patterns.

Maybe involving computer type games with math influences and making a game out of learning, I was never much good at maths myself but i think computer games seem to keep the interest of kids these days.

hey wwhy dont you give your child to solve sudoku, kakuro and such other maths puzzles. You can point ou tot him many different patterns in life. like the significance of maths in shopping. take him to a nearby supermarket store and include him in the calculations of the shopping and tell him if we do mistakes here then how much awful it would be. Ask him to help you with the calculations and let his mind process it. just give him bit of hints to teach it. this way your child will be interestd in learning maths, he will bond with you more easily and your family lfe will also imrove and be healthy..
