If you have never heard of the SuperBug MRSA you might want to read this. I have been dealing with this for 3 months now and up to 3 months ago I had no idea what MRSA was. It's a staph infection that produce bumps that can look like a spider bite or a boil. They are very painful. I have had 2 of them on my leg and everytime they come up I walk with a limp because the pain is so bad. It can be spread from person to person through cuts. You should make sure not to share razor blades, towels and other personal things. It spread through blood. If you think you have had something like this you should go to the doctor. There are to different types of MRSA one that you find in the hospital which is worse than the one being found in the communitny. If you have a MRSA bump you should keep it covered and wash your hands after cleaning it. You should not squeeze it. It will ooze on its own and if it don'e go to the doctor and they will cut it open. If you have experienced this please comment I would like to read what other people think about this SuperBug.

I have never had it myself, but I work in a nursing home and have cared for people who have it. You are correct about the making sure you wash your hands and how it is spread, however, this is what is the most important to remember.....you coul dhave the tinies cut on your hand and can be exposed that way. I always glove up when I am at work "if" I know a patient has it, but according to HIPPA laws sometimes the staff is not allowed to know. Which I think is entirely stupid...but anyhow that is a different subject.

That is stupid because that law is just adding to the possible spread of this infection. I'm only 19 and I hate having these bumps on me and I know I would hate it even more if I was a elderly person. And I've read that it can be deadly to older people and younger people with weak immune systems. I hope all the patients you care for are doing ok and be careful yourself.. :)

in fact we just had a meeting and they covered the possibility of spreading MRSA. I can in part understand the HIPPA laws when it comes to patient confidentiality but I do not agree with it in part for the workers who are exposed to it. On the other hand we are told if we use universal precautions (as in gloving up when exposed to body fluids, preventing cross contamination, etc.) than there is no need to worry. But I hand out medications and even though I am not sure of the risk but I glove up because like I said above a tiny cut and if a patient spits out a med and my hand comes in contact of saliva...etc. I do not want to chance it. But then you have some workers who hear something about a disease and they want to stay ten feet away. LOL
SO Hippa in a way also ensures proper care I guess.
One thing I did learn was that most of us probably will test positive for MRSA if we had been tested, but like yu said our immune systems are better than the elderly and little kids, or chronically sick people.
But still it's best to play it safe.
Thanks for the BR by the way!!!
