Believe it or not, this book Rich Man Poor Man by Irwin Shaw has been in my room for almost a decade and I never even bother to read it I thought it was boring and this one was only given to me so I thought I might not like it but then I was wrong! For me, this is one of my favorite novel I never thought I'm going to enjoy it so much that I don't want the story to end. It left me crying all night. Well the story revolves around the two brother and a sister. It tells the story of how they struggle in reaching the happiness they've been longing for since childhood. The story covers there 23 years of life. It tackles almost all the emotion that a person have while trying to live in a life of post war and the ever changing way of life of the Americans from 1950's to 80's. Love, lust, greed, achievement, success, corruption, fear, grieve, mourn, sadness....anything that a human can feel. Showing the story in a panoramic way was really superb and just like the review of some author say....you might find yourself in this story. Have you seen yourself in this kind situation? Feelng regret for ignoring such a good story?

Wow! I'm going to have to read that book.. I'm very much wrapped up in how society has changed since, say.. "the 50's" so I think I would very much enjoy this story. I never realized what it was about! I have lots of books on my shelves that I should read! Which is why I brought them home in the first place!

I like reading books that were on the best seller list from years ago. By then then hype of the novel is long past and I can form my own opinion. I've read all of Shaw's books. I had the books from my grandmother's shelves stored away and I was bored one day and started going through them. There was a novel called The Silver Chalice. It was about the silversmith that was commissioned to make the chalice that was used at Christ's last supper. It was later made into a movie with Paul Newman. I think the book was written in the 50's. Books like that also show me what the issues of our time was and how the public dealt with them. It's like reading a little bit of history.

I agree with you, I learned a lot about how society works in this book from early years.

This book was so amazing, I recommend it. This is the best selling book of Irwin shaw and base on wiki this book have a tv show after its popular days and even a second season I just don't know the whole details.

Really, I hope I can see a rerun of it on cable but I doubt if this will surpass the beauty of the book.
