Something dug up my radishes on my porch and didn't even eat them!

Two of my container gardens are ruined. Didn't leave any tracks on my cement porch or in the dirt. Made a big mess. If it was raccoons, then they eat what they mess up. So I think it was something else. Any ideas? Like what it could be and how to keep them away? Strange how they didn't bother my other containers.

It almost sounds like skunks to me. They're diggers. Could it be a cat looking for a potty??

Either of those two would be good guesses. There is a wild cat around and there are skunks around. If I can get up the next time I hear a strange noise at night, I'll catch whatever it is and let you know. Thanks.

I do not know much about raccoons, but I have used lots of cayenne pepper in the dirt around the bottom of plants to keep insects and pests away and it works. Typically, animals sniff around and definitely do not like getting cayenne pepper up their noses. At least you can try it to see if it works. Of course, be careful not to get it on your hands or in your eyes, for obvious reasons. Let me know how it goes.

I think cayenne pepper sounds like a good idea. I have some seeds to grow some for a supply next year. IF that doesn't work, I'll only grow chives, onions, and garlic, then trade with somebody! Thanks and take care.

Is it possible that it could have been a child? We also grow radishs. The kids love to eat them too. Last year I kept catching my son eating them but I hadn't cleaned them off.
This year my daughter, who is two, loves to pick them. I will find them laying around the pot.
Maybe a racoon. I don't know any other animals that will destroy something but not eat it.

No children between 9PM and 6AM would be on my porch for any reason. Saw healthy plants at 9PM when I got home last night, heard noises at 2AM and then at 6AM, I saw the mess on my porch. Dogs dig, but usually don't eat what they dig up. My radishes are small, no bulbs on them that anything would want to eat. Also the dirt was a big mess on the floor, I don't think kids would have made that much of a mess.
