Blonde or Brunette?? Should your hair go darker in the Winter?

I have always had blonde hair - but thinking about going darker. Why are you supposed to go darker in the winter & lighter in the summer??? I would think its the other way around.

Because in general a natural blondes hair will go lighter in the summer due to the sun bleaching it.

Yes, I know. But even women who dye their hair say 'darker in the winter'. If I go dark - I would want it to be when I am most tan. (since darker hair makes you look more pale)
