Ok if you need a dish, and there are dishes in the drain tray will you grab one out of the cupboard or the drain tray??
I would just grab one out of the drain tray. its less dishes that I have to put away. my husband on the other hand will grab one out of the cupboard every time.

I would grab one out of the drain tray as it would be easier than getting out of the cabinet and having to put one away. It sometimes seems as though we are always taking plates out of the dish tray to eat our meal because they have not been put up since they were washed.

Everyone in my house grabs from the drain tray before opening the cupboard. It's closer and, as you stated, that's one less dish that needs to be put away.
