General Malaise and unhappiness

I tend to believe that people are generally less satisfied with their lives in gerneral and the state of their country in specific largely because of the ready distribution of news, news papers, and the ever increasing number of pseudo-journalistic organizations who are more interested in sensationalism and the inexplicable behaviors of people in the public eye. Previous generations of people had less "news" to listen to, and have thrown in their face from the from pages of newspapers that may or may not be distributing lies and half truths knowingly in their rush to be the first to break a news story. The news on TV and in newspapers is an endless litany of people pushed over the edge by circumstances who snap, people stealing, lying, killing, raping, and generally spreading the mayhem as far and wide as they can, for no reason at all. However most people who watch the news religiously have never seen anyone that they personally know on television unless they were in handcuffs or dead. Since the news very rarely has anyhing to do with us as individuals or our lives in the day to day grind, why is it so popular? Allowing that negativity to course over your psyche day in day out, especially at the end of another long hard day is detrimental to the spirits of the common man. That is my stance anyway. I try to avoid the news at all costas and I have found that ignorance truly is a kind of bliss sometimes.

Rage surges through people that tend to be addicted to media, and they often don't know why-- I am very strident in my newsfasts, and I rarely ever need it anyway-- I've written about the health benefits of staying away from all of the stuff:: http://www.apsense.com/subject/30291.html Thanks for providing excellent advice to all who need it... I hope that you recieve many good responses to this discussion! :)
