Dry Drowning

Has anyone heard about dry drowning? There was a story on the Today show today about a 10 year old boy who drowned over an hour after he got out of the pool. This was the boys first time swimming and had apparently gotten water in his lungs and didn't realize. He later drowned in his sleep. Such a tragic story. Here is the website with the whole story: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24982210/ This is the first time I have ever heard of anything like this. And the warning signs they say to look for are far from obvious signs. The most obvious sign being difficulty breathing. The other signs are extreme tiredness and changes in behavior. Well aren't all kids tired after a day of swimming and with being tired will bring changes in behavior. I know this is a rare case but it makes me want to be that much more cautious when my daughter is swimming and taking a bath.

Yeah I just read that in the news page and I was shocked and very concerned. Being a mom, this news came hard on me specially because I had no idea such a thing existed. We all have taken our kids to the pool in summer and many a times they breathed in little water and then after a while they r back to swimming. I never knew that could be fatal. I'll be extremely careful from now on.

I heard a report of that too.. and that was just what I thought about their being tired after swimming.. so it's real good to know about it! Even if it is rare.. Such a sad story!

I have heard of it but couldn't remember the specifics. That is kind of scary to think about. When a child is tired after swimming the normal first thought is that they are tired or that they got too much sun, not that they have water in their lungs!
