Baby Shoes: Waste of Money or not?

I was shopping today and had to stop to pick up my 8 month old daughters shoes as she kicked them off for the millionth time and I was thinking to myself- why do I bother? I think baby shoes are so cute but so impractical and some can be expensive. What do you think about people who spend money on shoes for their babies. I personally will not spend over twenty dollars. What is the most you have ever spent on baby shoes?

I think it's a waste of money. My sister buys her children nike and adidas shoes at $70 dollars a pair. I don't think they really need a pair of shoes until they are beginning to walk, so they can get used to it.

I spent $65 on my first daughter's first pair of Nikes...but I have NEVER spent that much on kid shoes since. Now my limit is $20-$25, and my kids aren't babies anymore. After that first pair of high end shoes, I have never spent more than $15 for baby shoes, after they hit 2 or 3 years old, then I'll soend a little more. But my kids' feet grow like weeds, one pair never lasts longer than 6 months!!

I cant say i've ever had much of a problem like this. I used to buy more booties than anything else when my daughter was young but she's now 2 so had had to have normal shoes for quite some time now. I had bought her numerous pairs of slippers but they were always the boot type ones - which are harder to get off. I don't see a point in buying a little tacker expensive shoes especially if they're not actually able to walk yet. My Mum bought shoes for my daughter but i haven't a clue on how much she spent on them, some would've been dear though as some of them were 100% leather & stuff like that! Although my Mum also buys her just about everything & i'm sure some of the things she's bought have been expensive! My daughter was an early walker though so i had no choice but to buy her shoes & it was actually quite hard to get solid soled shoes in the sizes i needed because at that age, they tend to only make them in soft soles. I wouldn't spend a fortune EVER though so maybe you should stick with slippers or maybe boots coz they're harder for little fingers to get off!

Unfortunately my son has had extra wide feet since he was born. It costs me about $50.00 every 2-3 months for his shoes. His doctor told me it was important to keep shoes on his feet, to help mold them and shape them. I take my son to stride rite in the mall, he loves it there and the employees are so nice, they measured his foot and told me it was an extra wide, unfortunately you can't get xtra wide at walmart.

Well with my first two children they had expensive shoes because I was a new parent and wanted the best of everything for them. I think the most expensive pair I bought for them was about $50. But the third child he wouldn't leave shoes on and so I just quit the fight and allowed him to go with out shoes. He actually didn't wear shoes until he was about 2 years old and he finally gave up the fight. He always picks out these cheap shoes with the cartoon people that he loves so much, and I'm stupid I buy them to make him happy. I just recently seen a website that offered free shoes for babies who's parents do not have a lot of money, and I thought that was very cool.

I'm a married woman for more than five years now and based from my experience with our only child, my husband and I never spent so much for our daughter's shoes because of two reasons. One, we know for a fact that infants are constantly growing or we could say that they are on their growing stage. Say, if we buy shoes for them every three to four months, they will easily outgrow the shoes. Second, my parents really told us not to buy excessive pairs of shoes for her and not to buy every so often. Also, some of our close relatives have given her shoes as gifts. I truly think that spending a lot of money to purchase shoes for infants and babies is not practical. There are a lot of people who have nothing to eat or nothing to wear. I guess if one has a lot of money that he wants to dispose of, he or she should consider giving to the less fortunate people.

I didn't buy my daughter's first pair of shoes until she had been walking for a few months. Before that they were just for show and I refused to spend money on shoes that were not used for walking in. I will not pay more than $10 for shoes. My daugher either wears through them, grows out of them or our puppy eats them. My mother in law just bought her a $60 pair of shoes! I was shocked and tried to talk her out of it but she really wanted to buy them. Most of my daughter's shoes have been passed down from my friends and are practically brand new because they had too many pairs for their child and they never wore them.
