Blogs, some information......Please!

Sometimes when everyone seems to know what something is it makes me feel silly to admit that I do not actually have a clue what they are on about!
But it is driving me mad, I hear everyone going on about blogs and I do not have a clue what they are.
So could you please tell me:-
What is a blog?
What is it used for?
Is it of any benefit to do one?
If I wanted to do one, how would I go about it?

LOL You are not the only one who is naive on this one I must admit I haven't got a clue myself even though I have looked at a friends link a couple of times but can't really get into it myself. Will be looking here too for the answers the same as you. Ellie :D

A blog is a website in which items are posted on a regular basis and displayed in reverse chronological order.

Well I do have a bunch of blogs, but have to admit I haven't updated them in ages...A blog is whatever you want it to be...Maybe a place to place one's poetry, stories, memories of pets, it can be completely fun, or you can even turn it into a serious informational kind of one...almost all blogs are free to set up...and there are about a zillion out there. One of the famous ones is

tis has prolly been answered already a billion times but im responding through the email alert thingy so i cant see that soo.. ok, a blog is just an online journal of sorts. you write stuff you fel like writing.. people can read it, and respond.. basically its the same as mylot with only one poster starting the discussion.

It was answered my friend but I never mind hearing from you! Do you see how far behind I am with all this mylotting, 7 days old your response is that is terrible.
I started a blog but not into it much really, might carry on with it but not sure, thanks for your input anyway xx

No, I followed through, not literally, and started one. I filled it in a bit but then I forgot about it. Now you have just reminded me about it so I might go back and do some more!
I have just put on about what my days are full of, cant see it being very interesting to anyone but I do not have much of interest to put on really!

I think they are a difficult thing as you have to keep going at them and ive got the devotion but I havent got the `brain power` to keep thinking of someting new to add each day..I mean who is interested in the day to day adventures of a Derbyshire housewife..not many!!!!!..but good luck with yours Rose.

I'm afraid that until i read your discussion I myself wasnt too clear on what a blog was. Some appear as journals of lives, others are more like technical articles and others are opinions. There's such a variety to choose from to read or create. I signed up a few days ago at blogger.com for my own blog and figured I would just write what i felt like writing when ever.
Livejournal strikes me as a blog as well but its more for day to day journals.
