Are shock collars ok?

I have a chihuahua terrier mix and she barks at everything. I've tried scolding her, distracting her, and calming her down but nothing makes her stop. I don't mind when she barks a little, but she just doesn't stop. I've thought about getting one of those collars that shocks the dog when it barks but that sounds kind of mean. Do you think it hurts them, and do you think it's ok to do that to a dog?

The whole idea of shock collars shock me. I wouldn't put my dog throught that. No one knows for sure that they don't affect them in some way. I mean if they are suppose to shock them from barking or leaving the yard they are definitly feelings something. I think training is a huge key to solving this problem. When your dog is quiet, reward her. When she's barking, wave a treat in front of her and don't give it to her until she stops barking. I hope this helps.

It does help. I'll try the treat thing. She's kinda hard to work with because she's so smart. She knows she can get away with barking if I'm not paying attention. I've got to be more alert.

I never will use one of these things on my dog! How said before, have Vibrat collars with the same function, but be caution, most of these "vibrat" are shock collars...

Don't worry, I won't use anything unless I know it's safe and humane.
