Can I just tell you?

Now I remember why I hate being home on Fridays. It is garbage day. Garbage day means my dog is in my face almost ALL day! From the the time the trucks start running at 7:00am until 12:30pm the dog is a MESS! It must be the noise they make when they come down the hill..which is a kinda screechy, crying sound. They just went by for the last time today and she is whining and shaking. There are 3 different types of trucks (yard waste, recycling and regular garbage) and they make two runs each down the street. AHHHHHHHH. I have tried taking the dog outside and showing her what is making the noise and it does not make a difference. I have considered giving her the tranqualizers that we have to give her during thunder storms but I just don't like to drug her up unless it is absolutely necessary. You would think after all theses years she would get used to it. Does anyone have any suggestions that might help her (and me) cope?

Maybe you could take the dog to a dog park or for walk on garbage day. maybe if she is worn out from activity she won't get so upset about the truck noise. My dog doesn't like strange noises either. he likes to bark at them alot.

Thanks for the ideas. We don't have a dog park here but we do have some trails I could take her on. I just got the idea to try and walk her on our road several times in the morning on the day the trucks are running and do that every week. Perhaps that is the way to get her used to it rather than the way I had approached it was just hold her and show her the trucks. Does that make sense? Anyway I guess I just mean is that I will give her more exposure up close and then when she hears them from inside the house it won't be a big deal. Thanks for helping my light bulb go on!
